5 Days Until My Gastric Sleeve Surgery ...

Recommended Posts

It's 5 days until my surgery and I'm feeling anxious. I've been getting ready for this for over a year (when I started taking classes) and now the date is looming right in front of my face! I trust my surgeon completely and know he has a very, very low leak rate. I'm prepared for the post-op stuff and my new life style but I'm still nervous. UGHHHHH!

Any one else felt this way? :confused5:

It's normal to be nervous even though this is something that you really want to do.

Just know that they will take good care of you and that your life is going to change 100%!

My surgery is November 30th. i started my whole journey on Sept. 26th. So for me it had all happened in the blink of an eye. I am so nervous, even though my surgeon is amazing. I guess for me the nervousness comes from just not knowing how it all will be after I have surgery. I know how it "should" be, but I'm still nervous how I will actually feel.

I'm nervous also that I won't lose any weight. That probably sounds silly, but I have been overweight my whole life and losing the weight almost seems like an impossible thing right now.

I'm also very anxious about the actual procedure. I always hope everything will go smooth and complication free, but will it actually be that way the day of.

So to answer your question, yes I think everyone goes through exactly what you are going through to some extent or another. Why wouldn't we be nervous or anxious? We are basically about to change our lives in ways we never have before.

I believe everything will be fine. Have faith hun, you know what you are doing, and in about 5-6 months you will look back and giggle at how nervous you were. Good Luck. !!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
