Severe pain under rib cage, is this gas pain?

Recommended Posts

I am 1 day post op and I've been having severe pain in my chest and rib cage, I have been told it's gas pain but I just want to check in. Did everyone else experience this?

I sure did!! It sucks , but try and walk as much as you can. It'll help move it out. Oh, and welcome to the losers bench : )

Yes. We are pumped full of gas during the surgery and it needs to work it's way out, walk, walk, walk! I can't stress it enough to help move that gas. The top of your sleeve is in the middle at the bottom of your ribcage so it can be very sore in that whole area.

Thanks for the responses! Though everyone has said "yes yes it's gas" around the hospital, I always wonder if they're just trying to get me to quiet down ;)

The feeling is unsettling as well, because it feels a lot like hunger. Things are getting slowly better!

For a while, it will be hard to tell what the heck all the feelings and non feelings are! If you do have severe pain, check with your doc ASAP. Many of them are normal, but not all of them are. The gas they use to pump up the abdominal cavity is mostly sucked out when they complete the surgery, but sometimes there is some left there... thats why the pains are ofter in the shoulder or up higher... the gas migrates up. It will be absorbed into the body sooner or later, and walking keeps it moving and absorbing I guess! The shoulder pain lasted for a couple of weeks for me, and got less and less as I kept walking.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
