December sleevers!

Recommended Posts

Hello Dec sleevers, I was sleeved on the 8th. Today I started my clear fluids , finally. This journey hasn't been bad thus far. Had no pain medication yesterday or today. The only annoying thing is that my IV's don't seem to stay in position.. The nurses at the university of Penn are great. Should be coming home tomorrow.

Yippie! Oh! A little nausea but nothing major.

#finally on the losers bench

Hi everyone

Im gettin my sleeve december 12 its a dream come true. I am almost in tears for the fact that my professional dieting job will now be no longer. I imagine myself healthy and thinner and im soo excited. im a little nervous for the fact that this is something sooo good gonna happen to me but im not sure without consequence. i always seem to have a small cloud above me but maybe its my turn for sunshine.

Congrats to everyone who's had/is having surgery this month. It's great to hear everyone's updates. I'll be starting my preop diet on Wednesday for 12/28 surgery...I'm hungry just thinking about it! Doesn't help that I'm just finishing finals at school, and everybody and their mother wants to get together to Celebrate with food!! Plus the holidays.

sigh. take Big Girl Pill. rinse and repeat. ;)

It's so exciting to hear from everyone who's had surgery already this month. I can hardly wait for 12/14! The OR nurse called me on friday and said I need to be at the hospital by 5:30 am so I don't even need to wait on wednesday!

Over the last hour, I've managed to eat two ounces of homemade turkey broth and I'm trying to work on a second cup. I've had some trouble getting all my Water in today - I'm at about 40oz and they wanted me at 64. I'm trying hot stuff to see if it goes down easier and so far it's working.

I lost 8 pounds right away on my preop diet (mine is low carb only, not calorie restricted) and then have sorta lost and regained the last 2 - so i have lost maybe 10# pounds. Given that I am in the 300# range, 8-10# isn't much, but I definately notice that my middle section is narrower, like some of the bloat is gone.

I report to the surgical center at 630 Monday morning of the 12th, with a surgery at 730am! I am so glad they put me first thing so I don't have the day to "worry" about things. Right now, i am revved up and ready to go, but feel tired from the low carb. It makes me a little worried about how exhausted I will feel post op....

My date is 12-19-11 at Cedars-Siani with Dr. Scott Cunneen. I am on the 2nd day of my pre-op diet. When I feel hungry I have a hot drink. That helps for a little while. I was nervous and scared, but now I'm just excited. I can't concentrate, even at work. And we are in the middle of an audit!

I definitely know what you are talking about. It seems as though the lack of food and anxiety about the surgery itself consumed me for the last two weeks. I've been totally scatterbrained. I have been planning activities for the week I'll be out so the stress level is definitely up there. I'M AT WORK RIGHT NOW! ON A SUNDAY! But, tomorrow, I plan on getting lots of rest after the surgery.

OK, day 3 and I feel MUCH better. Day 1 and day 2 post op SUCKED. Seriously.

Today, I am keeping down more food. I have had 8 oz of a Protein Drink, about 6 oz of broth, and 24 oz of Water. I'm about to go have strained wonton Soup.< /p>

It's not easy getting all the calories in. I'm probably low again today but yesterday, I could barely get in 75 calories. My goal today is 200 and while I'm not going to make that, I so far have broken 100. After the soup, I'll probably be about 125 or so.

I'm thinking about going to the Channuka party at the synagogue next weekend but I think it might be too hard. I will still be on Clear Liquids. I want to see people but it's going to be a struggle.

Try going later in the evening (ie. party starts at 6, arrive at 7). Get a glass of Water and nurse it all evening, that way it'll be as though you are participating in the party.

I hadn't thought of that--thanks for the tip, Deigh! This means I get to treat myself to lots of yummy herbal teas...Teavana.com, here I come!!

Major healing vibes to all of the December Sleevers already sleeved. Its really starting to be real. I have all of my shakes and drinks and jellos from costco now for my preop. I understand that I may have bought stuff that my stomach/taste buds won't like after surgery, but I wanted to have enough on hand to get me through without having to go shopping. I have two cases of Isopure zero carb clear drink, a box of New Whey Protein bullets (12), two cases of costco Protein Shakes, as well as Unjury chicken Soup, unjury unflavored, body fortress chocolate, target vanilla and a bunch of samples from Vitalady, nectar, and click. Hoping something in that mix will appeal post-op and if none of it does, well, then, at some point maybe they will get used.

I had a birthday party for two of my kids on Saturday night and made the mistake of mentioning to family that I was pleased that I had dropped two clothing sizes in this three month period. And of course that started them in on the "you don't really need surgery, just keep doing what you are doing." Its hard hearing that because there is a part of me that thinks it too, but I just think ultimately I would go back to my old ways without something to reinforce me, like the sleeve, to really let good habits develop and tehn get back to a normal size which will hopefully help to have the desire to want to maintain and sculpt my new body. My mother thinks its unfathomable that I needed to lose about 130 lbs from where I was to where I need to be to get to the top of the range for BMI. She says "well, that must be to get you to be skinny like a supermodel, don't be unrealistic" and I have to tell her that 150 lbs at 5'7" is nowhere near "skinny"...man, when I got married, I weighed 130! (and thought I was fat!) Anyway....definitely not a supportive mom. She's 80 and convinced I am going to die in surgery or live an unhappy life afterwards becasue I can't eat whatever I want.

Sigh. Glad hubby and friends are supportive.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
