I know that when I had my surgery they had a couple patients experience quite a bit of nausea in the days following surgery. In your case you are a week and a half out of surgery which is strange. I would consult your doctor just to make sure this is normal. Typically the first month is the hardest so I am sure you will be up and at em in no time. I am sure this is temporary. Please keep us posted and best of luck to you!

Amanda, just want to encourage you to keep in touch with your Dr. and try to stay positive. I'm 21 days out and have not experienced gagging or nausea. I do know a certain percentage of patients do. Keep us posted and I'll be thinking of you. Maybe contact your Nutritionist for some support.

Its been a 1 Month and a week or two weeks since surgery and i have been in contact with my dr. hence the reason I was hospitalized but they have no real explanation for me they sent me home yesterday with reglan to take for the nausea but I still cant get anything down. I have another appointment with my dr. Today we will see what happens I just dont know what to do anymore and wish I wouldnt have done this to my body. It really sucks

Could it possibly be the type of food you are eating? I have not experienced anything like this but I do know that if you eat something that your body does not like, it will get rid of it one way or another whether you are sleeved or not.

Also, could you be constipated? If there is simply no room, then it has to come out somehow. You may have a blockage somewhere in your intestine.

Maybe you could schedule a consult with another doctor in your area and see what they have to say. Most insurance will pay for a second opinion. If I were you, I would not rest until I had answers.

Please keep us updated. I wish I knew more or could help in some way. I feel bad for you and really hope you get better.

Shae

Hi Amanda,

Your story is identical to my post opt story. i was sleeved 4/12/11 hours after surgery i woke up gagging. the gagging until throwing up continued EVERY single day until July. I had so many upper GI's to determine the probably. it was finally caught. i hade a horrible case of stenolis (the stomach narrows off and doesnt allow food to past so it comes back up) after 3 hospital stays, 2 stint placements in my stomach, being on iv Vitamins and fluids for 3 months, and 3 upper GI's. my problem is finally fixed and im doing well. my best advice to you would be to STAY on your doctor. Keep telling him how you truely feel. if you feel like crap let it be known!!!! if you throw up every single thing you put in your mouth tell him! the doctors and nurses are on a first name basics with me i have visited the office so much.

Hi 'Amanda,

I did have some issues in the beginning. The doctor had me to do a sleeve test to make sure there was not leakage or blockage. Everything was ok. Everything turned out ok with the tests. I stayed on liquids - drank G2, plenty of Water, high Protein broth to keep from getting dehydrate.

It turned out was getting a very bad cold which caused me to have a lot of phlegm - because of this I was not able to hold down very little liquids until I got over the cold.

Edith

Amanda, I am so sorry you are going throught this! The people above have offered some excellent suggestions and I don't have much to add. Mostly I want to offer my support and words of encouragement. On the "complications" thread on this board, I read of others with complications, and like Tennille above, were able to get to the bottom of it and are doing well. I wish this for you. I could add that an antiacid is critical. If I don't take mine I experience the type of discomfort and symtoms you describe. You're probably on one but I thought I would throw that in. I also took raglan and it helped a lot. Hang in there. We are all rooting for you!!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
