My VSG Surgery is December 22, 2011 !!

Recommended Posts

After 1 year of consideration of lap-band and many years of failed weight loss with diet and exercise, I have set a date for sleeve surgery. Getting nervous now, but in a good way. Time seems to fly by, and by this time next year, I will be at my target weight, (I hope). I am 39, 375, BMI of 54. I was very athletic and have lots of muscle mass, but have a big appetite too, and my health has spiraled downward out of my control for 10 years now. I have always loved food. Exercise is not an issue, but my metabolic rate has slowed and now I have gotten used to eating less, but at my size, life is so difficult. Getting dressed is a b***h. When I walk into a room now, i scan around to find a comfortable chair where i will not be embarrassed....sad. I felt my life slipping away, so it is time to jump in feet first. I would love to hear any success stories and any tips on what to watch out for, I can find the basic "what to do's" on my own. There are plenty of negative stories on the web, but i do not want to hear those. I am moving forward and would like to hear successful sleeve stories and tips as well as any of those things that people don't plan for when getting sleeved. Thanks !

Congratulations! This is going to be the best Christmas gift you've ever given yourself :)

For success stories, tips, Q's and A's this is the best place you could have possibly gone! When I was first starting back in May I spent hours on here just browsing site and reading reading reading. The people are amazing as well, and since you are a guy you may find "The Man Room" very informative (under support groups).

As for myself I have lost 62 pounds so far and I am two months out. That does include the weight I lost pre-op. I generally lose 2-3 pounds a week which my surgeon is very happy about. He said anymore and he would be worried that I was losing muscle and not fat.

Congrats again and good luck!

Well, Shannon, I've got good news and bad news. The good news is that you will find you lose weight VERY quickly after surgery! You'll be much more energetic and able to move much easier.

The bad news is that you will have to get used to breathing better, being able to get dressed without breaking a sweat and choosing a chair based on where you want to sit rather than which chair will hold up under your weight. (I've been there, done that game)

Use the search box in the upper right and search the forums for any question you may have. I bet it's been answered. If it hasn't, there are lots of folks here that are willing to answer questions, even if you think they may be TMI.

Good luck on your journey!! :)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
