Finally got a date for surgery - November 15th

Recommended Posts

I finally met with the surgeon after getting all of my preop stuff done and got a date for surgery. It's only a little over a week away. I have to go to preop meeting on Wednesday to get all info on what I need to do before and after surgery. But he gave me a packet and I'm only on clear liquid for 24 hours after surgery. Then for 3 weeks it is liquid and mushy foods as tolerated. 3 oz of Protein at each meal 3 times a day and a Protein Shake. He wants 90g of protein a day. I'm going to take a month off of work so that I can get used to everything I need to do. Also looking forward to being home for the birth of my 1st grandchild who is due on 11/21/11. Also, he said I am only in the hospital for 24 hours and no drain. No preop diet as of yet anyways, just asked to not gain any weight before surgery. I am nervous and really excited to finally have a chance at not just losing weight but keeping it off. Any advise or tips for my upcoming journey are appreciated.

Hi there! Welcome! We have similar stats and my surgery is on the 16th! I am excited. Are you?

My only advice is to read, read & read some more on this website! I have learned SO much!

P.S. I noticed you also posted on the forum for November sleevers. I will answer you there as well. Come often!

Congrats you guys! Longer-life... I have seen you around here for quite a while.. I think using this board REALLY helps smooth out any bumps in the road of this surgery... I think it must bring up the statistics for success for the people who use it for sure! I can't really imagine NOT having this board to rely on day to day.

I totally agree. I have been reading this board for months now. I felt educated when I was talking with the surgeon, because I was asking about a drain, post op diet what to expect, how long in the hospital etc. Everything I read about on here that might have concerned me. So hopefully no surprises. I look forward to sharing our journey together.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
