2 month stall - I need advice Plzz!! 55LBS lost in 3 1/2 mos

Recommended Posts

I've been in a 2 month stall and I don't understand it. I am following by my doctors food regimen but no weight loss. My doctor told me to switch up on my lifestyle change, such as instead of no exercising begin to do so..and I did...!. Just to give you some history. Before surgery I weighed 227 lbs on July 12, 2011 and now today, I am 172 lbs....but I havent lost anymore weight in 2 mos. During all of my weight loss, I did no exercising at all, so my doctor suggested I try working out. For 1 month, I do 1 hr of cardio, such as elliptical, running, treadmill..and etc, and light weight training...still noooo weight loss. I have tried everything ..protein drinks, watching what I eat...can someone give me an explanation. I'M VERY THANKFUL FOR 55LBS OFF..But is this the end of my weight loss???

I don't think thats it for you. How tall are you? You are only 172lbs now and each pound is harder to lose when you get thinner. Keep doing what you are doing and the scale will have to move again!

Not sure if you have done this or not... measurements?

When you start to exercise and burn fat, as you are doing, you might find that your weight stays the same or bounces around a few pounds up and down but you are actually getting smaller. Muscle, although weighs the same as fat, takes less space under the skin. I might be that you are now smaller than you were before the exercise???

I know this has happened to me.

I went on a 7 week stall and lost three inches...

I know stalls suck! I'm in one right now. but look at it like this--you've lost 55 lbs in less than 4 months! That's amazing!

In trying to help you and reading what you wrote you said you tried watching what you eat. That leads me to think you have not really done that too much and that means you can really try it to get losing again! I suggest you do some strict food logging and keep your carbs low to jump start your loss. I have kept mine under 40 net carbs for six months and have lost 92 pounds. I wish I were not carb sensitive but I am and that's that! If you have been lucky enough to lose as much as you have without really watching what you eat than you have a lot of leeway to start really watching it, for a while, and lose more. Combined with working out I think you stand a good chance of losing more this way. Keep your Water up too. The food logging sites like fatsecret.com and myfitnesspal.com are great and often will show you that you've been eating a lot more, especially carbs, than you thought.

Just to clarify what I was saying if I added confusion..I do watch what I eat, and I use fitness pal to log in my daily food. I love that site!!! You can also download the app on your mobile phone which I use too. Now you are right about my Water intake...I hate Water, and I drink about 42 to 56 ozs of water daily. I will take you advice in drinking more thanks.

im right there with you! our numbers are very similar. i started out at 226 ( VSG on june 23) and im down to 171-172. And my weight loss has gone up and down one lb for the last 3 weeks and it is driving me crazy! im scared too that my weight loss has ended but im just praying it hasn't. I don't think ive ever really had a stall ( until now) because even though im a slow loser, ive always still loss. But last month i only lost like 5lbs and so far i have only lost maybe a lb or so. Really discouraged right now too :(

You and I really do have the same BMI, I questioned my doctor. He said, because we began with a low bmi, we will lose first at a rapid pace in the beginning but once we lose a certain amount our bodies began to slow down in the weight loss. However he said this is normal, our bodies are adjusting to the dramatic change. I had reached his suggested 6 mos goal in 2 mos, so soon our bodies will readjust and lose again.

Also I found out I'm gaining more muscle weight from exercising but I have lost 4 inches off my waist in 1 1/2 month without weight loss. Check your measurements.

LIke Coop mentioned above, body composition really changes! Especially if you've never excercised before. So you start to shift more in body fat/muscle ratio. I've noticed my body is definitely taking a more sculptured, leaner look yet I am not loosing as much as others and actually weigh more than some people I know, but I am still "smaller." I excercised a lot before my surgery. But since my surgery I seem to get a much better payoff! I "try" not to focus too much on weight... it's hard though :-) Some on this board have metioned they always keep a smaller article of clothing around to use as a "goal." I've taken that suggestion. I try on that garment (usually pants for me) and it seems to give me the reality check I need. For me it's more concrete than measurments, although that can certainly work too. Recenty someone gave me the idea to keep photos side by side. I'm searching for some older ones now. I've taken some current ones. Her post was amazing. You realy can't "see" the changes our bodies make until you "see" them!!!

Today is officially 4 mos for me, I was in a terrible stall for the entire month of october .This month I changed some things such as working out, and upped my Water intake and carbs for energy...the finally result ...I lost 10 lbs so far from nov 1 - today. You need to change up to get your body losing again. My trainer helped me to understand this...you need more carbs while working out or else your body will think you are starving it.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
