October Sleevies - Check in!

Recommended Posts

Hello!!!

The month is over so we're all sleeved and happy (hopefully)!

How is everyone doing?

I'm just over 3 weeks out from surgery and feeling GREAT! My energy levels are up, I'm not struggling as much with getting my Water in and I've found a few options for Protein that I like. I've been back at work for a week and a half now and it's getting easier each day. I have ZERO and I really mean ZERO hunger which is such a strange feeling but I love it!

Hope you're all doing well! :)

As of today I am 4 weeks out from my surgery. I did have an 11 day stall that was driving me crazy!!! Happy to see the scale moving again.

I can't get all my liquids in, but I am close. I do pretty well with my Protein too. What I have problems with are the chewable Vitamins. They get stuck and I can't seem to swallow the chalky powder I have to chew them up into.

People are very much noticing my loss which feels great! I put on a belted sweater last night and was shocked by how HUGE the belt was! It definitely showed how many inches I had truly lost.

Monday will be 4 weeks post-op for me and I'm feeling pretty good. I'm down 18lbs from surgery, 28lbs over all. I've been able to get at least 60g of Protein everyday but 64oz of liquid is another story. I'm averaging about 50oz of liquids a day which isn't too bad but I know I need to really be at 64oz. My energy levels start out great but by the end of the day I'm wiped out. I'm hoping going back to the gym will help with that. As for Vitamins, I hate them. lol. I've been crushing them in various things (yogurt, cottage cheese, pudding) just to get them down.

I did have my first NSV today. I put on a pair of pants I haven't worn for 6 months today and they are loose!!

@5McK, That's so great that people are noticing your loss!

@Pixie Jen what a great NSV!

I feel like the only place I've lost weigh is in my ... ummm ... chest. Hopefully I'll start noticing it in other places soon! :)

I will be 4 weeks out on Monday and am doing pretty well. I am having a stall this week, which is making me completely bonkers, but I am just trying to avoid the scale until my appointed time. I am struggling with getting my liquids in, but I keep trying. Water has never been my thing, so I have a purse full of crystal lite packets so I have no excuses. It is just hard. I was a hardcore soda drinker until about a month before my surgery and sometimes the crystal lite doesn't cut it. Trying to give myself lots of options though. I still need to work on my exercise and energy level, but I have been bad about taking my Vitamins and am making that a new goal, along with my Protein and Water.

I had a pretty awesome NSV the other night, when a coworker told me that my scrub shirt (that I wore all the time pre-op) looked like a dress on me.

So glad to see that everyone is doing well. You guys are awesome!

I'm coming to the end of my 4th week. It is so textbook, but I am having a stall. Losing the inches in the last few days is quite nice though. So far, I'm down a total of 70 lbs total and 19 since my surgery Oct 10. That ain;t hay! :cornut:

I'm not having any trouble with liquids or Protein (still do a lot of shakes). Mushies have gone down well. It still surprises me how I can't eat a single little egg but how satisfying that 3/4 I can eat can be.

My 4 week follow up is next Tuesday and I should be released to soft foods. Every day gets better and feels more "normal". My spirits are high and I think this will be a big success for me.

Best wishes to my fellow Octoberians.

Hi Everybody,

I was 1 month post-op last Thursday. All in all, I'm feeling great. I'm down 18 pounds, but also hit a "stall" last week (I even gained 1.7 pounds.) I was down 2 pounds this morning though, so fingers crossed, I'm on a roll again.

I'm somewhere in-between mushies and solid food. Still mostly yogurt, pureed Soups and Protein drinks, but I did add in an egg, the tiniest bit of chicken (about 1 tbsp.) and some non-pureed chili over the weekend. Everything went down (and stayed down) well.

I too, have trouble getting my chewable Vitamins down. They make me cough and gag, and then when they finally get down to my stomach, I get nauseous. My Protein intake is pretty good - roughly 50 - 60 gr. (at least 2 protein drinks/day.) I'm not good with Water, never have been, but I try to drink a couple of mugs of tea (non-caffeinated) at work every day.

Unlike everybody else, I'm still HUNGRY. All. The. Time! What is wrong with me??? Yup, I'm the one who ate a whole egg Sunday morning and felt like I probably could have eaten another one (but I didn't.) This worries me ALOT!

My energy is back 100%, however, I keep forgetting to take it easy when I'm vacuuming or taking out the trash and then I get a twinge of pain in my abdomen.

Some of us are over the "hump" of recovery. Now, I'm just looking forward to getting back to some "normalcy" as far as what I can eat. Hopefully, denser Proteins will make me feel less hungry.

Hey, everybody!!! My surgery was 10/20 so I'm a little over two weeks. I've lost 18 pounds, all after surgery (my surgeon didn't require a pre-op diet). Like Mim, I can eat a whole scrambled egg, and don't feel full in my tummy, but it sits in my esophagus. I just had a looong post in the post op section since I'm learning to graze, or top off, which is not good. I need to get to a routine and stick to it, no more excuses since I'm just on pureeds/mushies. I am getting about 50 ozs of Water in a day, but not enough Protein. Only about 30-40 grams if no Protein Drink. I can't stand Protein shakes much as I love savory flavors and not sweet, but I force myself to drink a few per week. Why can't they make a cheeseburger flavor??!! I'm kind of worried as I just wanna eat all time, but it's all head hunger and I really, really need to overcome and learn to feel satisfied with just a few bites! I do have extra energy but I don't think it's cause of the weight loss, I think it's cause my body isn't bogged down with crap food all the time anymore.

Love you all and still wishing for full, easy recoveries!!

Hey,everyone!

I am about 3 1/2 weeks out and feel great. I am back to work and have lots of energy. I was advanced to stage 4/ full diet at 2 weeks, and so far there isn't any Protein I haven't been able to eat as long as I go slow and chew, chew, chew. I do 60 Gm protein, 60 0z Fluid a day, but I do really have to work at it. Certainly no room for carbs or junk!

I walk a minimum of 10,000 steps a day, and down 19 lbs post-op for a total of about 55 lbs lost.

Only problem I had was quite a lot of post op pain, particularly in the rt lower abd, and it persisted a good 3 weeks. Surg actually tested me for appendicitis, but it was fine, and he thought he may have injured a nerve down there with the trocar. I think the fact that I have absolutely NO core strength hasn't helped. I need to work on that.

Other issue is I have to really fight those Vitamins and Calcium tabs down. I feel like I might as well just munch down a couple of sticks or chalk every morning!

Glad to hear everyone is doing so well! I really believe this is the best single thing I have ever done for myself. Rebecca

I was sleeved 3 weeks tomorrow....time has flown by!! Things have been great! Recovery wasn't too bad. I had my pain meds filled but never used them once I was discharged from the hospital. Aside from a couple of sleepless nights (I'm a side/stomach sleeper) I really had no complaints. My dr was one of the ones who moved to purees 3 days after discharge so I never really got sick of the fluids. Now I'm regular foods and adjusting fine. The biggest thing is the chewing....stopping isnt an issue because my body tells me when enough is enough. I've found myself with so much more energy and I feel healthier..already!! Down 32.4lbs and couldn't be happier!!

Hi All, I was sleeved on Oct. 18th, Forest Park Hospital, Dr. Nicholson. I just began soft foods and they are going well. I can eat about 1/2 cup per mean and find I am satisfied as long as I wait about an hour before drinking again.

I still have pain/soreness on my left side and run out of energy after a full day. I'm inspired by all those walking so much. I've got to do more.

This is a great thread. I'm happy to have found ya'll. I want to know how to get that fun ticker on my profile and other info. Any help there?

Hi all Octobers , I'm doing ok too. I was sleeved on oct 28 2011. I need to up my Protein Drinks n Water n focus on taking my Vitamins more. I threw up several times on certain foods or drinking with my food at a couple of resturaunts and once at home with scrambled egg whites. I have bad right side pain still, but I know it's just scar tissue forming n the healing process. I hope u all r great! Hugs

Well it's been 9 weeks since surgery and I'm starting to feel more "normal". I have been able to try more foods, which is nice but finding out they don't work isn't. lol

I'm still struggling with my Fluid intake. I feel like I'm drinking constantly but am only averaging 45-50oz a day. I also have found Vitamins that don't make me wanna hurl everytime I take them. Yay!

The best thing about week 9 was that I finally hit Onederland. biggrin5.gif

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
