Stall, Right Out Of The Gate....UGH!

Recommended Posts

OK, I was sleeved, Oct 25,2011.

I worked my butt off and lost 53 pounds before surgery, with diet and exercise.

So I had the surgery, and I can now get the needed 60-80 grams of Protein a day. Plus my 64 oz of Water.< /p>

And I have lost only one pound since the surgery!

Apparently I am at a stall. My doctor's PA told me she thinks it is because I had lost so much weight before surgery.

I know it will come off. But damn, this is frustrating!

Has this happened to anyone here??

Thanks in advance for your comments!

You are still swollen and retaining Water from the surgery. I didn't lose that much the first week, not even one pound....now the SECOND week!!! that was another thing. I lost 10 pounds in the first week!

How exciting!! I hope the same thing happens to me!!

I know that I have to lose weight. I'm getting in 510 calories a day! I have to lose the weight. But I tell you, it is frustrating, see the scale not move!!

Thanks for commenting. That makes me feel better!

I agree it is very frustrating. As many have told me, your body is still adjusting to the major change it has recently undergone. For me, when I don't actually see the scale moving down in pounds, I am still losing inches (a huge mystery to me, but I'll take it) as my clothing indicates. I will try on clothing in the closet one week and it may be a bit tight, by the next week it's almost too big.

Just remember, when the scale isn't physically changing, there are still changes taking place inside your body.

Keep the faith (and patience). I know it is very difficult, but it's the only way that I cope at almost 4 months out and down 42 pounds and 18 pounds from onderland.

I meant I lost ten pounds the second week........you will do just fine, just keep following the doctors orders and stop weighing yourself. When you weight yourself over and over it only makes you feel bad and stressed and we all know what stress can do to us. Weight yourself in about 4 weeks. I know it will be hard to do but you just have to! It's for your sanity.

The dreaded 3-5 week stall strikes again!!

It is very comon to stall in the 3-5 weeks after surgery. Try not to weigh yourself for 2 weeks and keep following doctor's diet program. It will start again. I have never seen anyone go through the early stall and stay that way.

You may want to do a search on the board for "stall" and you will see tons of people with the same complaint. I had it too :-)

It will pass---

Listen to Rev Me Up. It's the 3-5 week stall, and it will pass. Don't worry :smile1: I hit that stall too during weeks 2-5 and stayed around 200-202 lbs that whole time. The scale started moving again (not as quickly as I'd like). Now I'm at 185 lbs, and pretty happy with where I am so far.

You'll lose weight. You're eating so little calories now; it's impossible NOT to lose weight.

I understand the 3-5 week stalls. But I stalled right out of surgery. UGH....and it still is going on....

I know it has to end. On 510 calories a day, you have to lose weight. I just wish it would get on the ball! ;)

I got sleeved the same day as you!!! :)

I weigh daily too. I am at a stall. I have only lost 4 now since surgery. I was only at 2. When I went to doc for my one week post op, I had lost 19 lbs since Oct 13th, the day I was there to schedule surgery.

I know it will come off, but I agree it is so frustrating as we are barely eating and the weight isn't falling off. I just keep on keeping on. I know it has to come off sooner or later.

I haven't tried on any clothes as all I have been wearing is comfy clothes, so I am not really sure where my 19 lb weight loss was, my stomach is still very swollen.

Keep up the good work!!!

I'm having this too! Just over one week one and 1 pound lost! Grrr!

BUT...keep in mind, you metabolism slows down to accommodate a deficit in calories, when you're on fluids on your pre-op diet and then continuing on them our first week after surgery, you're getting very few calories. Protein plays a huge factor too.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
