I was sleeved on Halloween, and was released from the hospital yesterday evening. Ever since my surgery, I have been having pain in my left abdomen; it’s a sharp pain when I take a deep breath. Both doctors and nurses insist that it is just gas, which I completely understand. The pain is not intolerable just very annoying. Has anyone else experienced this, and is there any remedy other than time. Thanks Mike

Walking definitely helps. I had the worst gas pain for the first two days, but finally it died down after I was able to get walking.

I'm a little over 6 weesk out and I sometimes get this same pain except mine is usually under my left rib cage - right now it's on the left side of my abdomen. It's not daily and it doesn't have me doubled over, it's just annoying. I notice when I don'r drink enough liquids or if I eat too fast the pain occurs. Walking definitely helps.

All the best!

I'm only 11 days out and I have have gas all the time. I can be watching TV with my mother and daughter and they will "Is that your stomach?" I have to admit that it was really painful to drink for the first 2 days but it has gotten easier - but it has not gone away. The Dr tells me that it will become less overtime and that I'm gassy because of the surgery. I'm thinking I may just be a gassy person. But walking help a lot - actually just moving around helped it move its way out - and also doing the breathing excerise on that thing they give us to blow in after the surgery helped my gas too. Hope you feel better soon.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
