When does the weight start coming off?`

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on Oct 25th. I am just past one week. I understand I am swollen, and am recovering from surgery, but when will I see some pound shedding? It amazes me as I am barely eating or drinking. It is a daily struggle to get in my liquids and Proteins. Some days I do better than others.

I went into the hospital 241. I came out of the hospital 237. One week later I am 235.

Please help. Thanks

You are not doing anything wrong, just have patience. Your main concern right now is liquids. Experiment with warm liquids, some find they go down easier. Give it some time, I promise you will see results. Congratulations and good luck on your journey!

Congrats on your surgery! You're well on your way. I agree, for whatever reason I am able to get down a lot of hot tea - much more than cold or room temperatured Water. It's still early so the weight loss may not be as evident but trust me, it will definitely start melting off and you'll be pleasantly surprised by the results. Get ready...

HI!!! I was sleeved on 10/24 just one day before you. I can tell you that it will definately come off just be patient for your body to catch up to reality of what has happened. I am down 12lbs since surgery and everyday is a sturggle to get the liquids in but i feel great! email me at tcook@thebeagroup.com and we can share our stories and our journey!

You had a lot of fluids pumped into you when you were in the hospital, so you probably came home weighing more than you did when you arrived. I'm not sure when your post-op weight of 237 was taken but many come out weighing more than going in because of IV fluids.

It will come off. You may also be losing inches (I did) and not so much on the scale. If you haven't taken measurements yet, do so as soon as possible.

Your body may also be "holding onto" fat reserves because of your limited intake. You need to show your body you don't need the reserves by making sure you are at least getting your walking in.

Sounds like you already started losing!! Be sure to WALK, WALK, WALK!!! Your body will get used to the reduce calorie diet and compensate!!

You will also face several "stalls" on the way, my scale and I were not on talking terms for about a week!! I have settled on weighing twice a week, wed and sun!!

GOOD LUCK!!

Aw, honey.....you've technically lost 6 pounds in 8 days, right? I think that's fantastic and I bet that's better than any other diet you've been on! Give your body time and patience. It WILL come off. I lost about 12 pounds the first week (surgery 10/20), got to 288, then the last whole week have fluctuated between 288 and 285! Got down to 285 yesterday, then today shot back up to 288???!! What the hell is THAT! How you do gain three pounds in one day only eating about 700 calories! I didn't even do that when I was eating 3000 a day! But I know it's just my body trying to adjust, fluctuating with Water weight, panicking that it will never get a whole meal again, and scared to death that it's starving right now and hanging on to every little fat cell.

One thing you can bet on for sure is that you WILL LOSE WEIGHT! I have not seen one person who had the sleeve who did not lose weight. They might stall, they may gain a few pounds here and there, but overall, we always lose! Hang tight, Sunshine...it'll come. I know it's hard since we're suffering a liquid diet, you'd think we'd at least be rewarded with at least a pound lost a day, but our bodies are fickle little creatures with a ton of overriding responses to starvation! ^_^

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
