getting back on track

Recommended Posts

I am almost 3 months out and I am having to smack my hands. I havent been following the rules very well lately. I have been eating the normal stuff. Not really eating bad things like chips or doughnuts, but i have been eating some breads and noodles and such. I need to get back to the Proteins. I have still been losing but not as fast as I want to, so I am re-dedicating myself to eating Protein first. I have been drinking my shake for Breakfast and lunch, and eating protein for dinner. It is so much easier to do it now of course since having such a tiny tummy, but I need to stay on track! Bad habits die hard, but I am trying to kill them this time! Is there anyone else out there that needs to re-pledge themselves to this new way of life?

Nothing wrong with a treat once in awhile. I have Peanut Butter and crackers and lord knows a couple of pieces of candy for Halloween.

My dietician said to have real food Breakfast, lunch and dinner - I am ending third month postop. He said use Protein Drinks and bars for the mid morning and mid afternoon Snacks but to eat real food for the three meals - 1/4 Protein, 1/4 vegetable, 1/4 fruit, 1/4 carbohydrates.

So, there is nothing wrong with Pasta or potato with dinner, you need you carbs to burn energy instead of Protein and muscle.

i love how you say only lost 30 pounds! that is a great weight loss. you are doing good. i went back and checked out my weight loss totals for after surgery and i realized something.....when i ate more of the "regular" food i lost more weight. while i was just eating and drinking Protein i only lost 4 pounds for that month. so i guess i shouldnt freak out about it that much. i had my weight messured to see how much fat i have lost vs muscle. since my journey began i have only lost 6.5 pounds of muscle vs. 80.5 pounds of fat.....i'l take that. i would like to lose no muscle but i hear it is impossible not to lose muscle while you are losing fat. oh well

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
