Tachycardia after eating any meal

Recommended Posts

I am 8 weeks out and have increases heart rate after every meal. I don't eat sweets or unhealthy foods. I thought it might be dumping but I'm not eating anything that should case it. Anyone else have this?

I have noticed that too, but only occasionaly. I notice it when I eat a little too much; not enough for it to come back up or to even be incredibly uncomfortable. Wow, I'll have to pay attention to that a little more now that you mention it. I wish I had a logical explanation for it...a little disturbing being as I'm somewhat of a hypochondriac. Heck, I might even email the surgeon and get his take on it. Good luck to you!

I have this mostly with Protein Drinks, my NUT thinks it's all in my head.

I have noticed this sometimes during and after eating, but not all the time. It may be related to the stimulation of the vagus nerve which is supposed to pass through your stomach and is also connected to other organs such as your heart.

At 16 months out, this still happens to me quite a bit. I've just grown used to it.

I didn't know what it was when it happened to me today for the first time. I was getting on here to ask when I found this post. I have been able to eat rather quickly so I measure everything. Today I felt the heart feeling weird thing (had no idea it was called Tachycardia) after I ate just a little more than I had measured out (one big bite chewed and swallowed slowly). About two minutes after my heart started feeling really weird and I started to get scared. Just when I was about to tell my co-worker that something might be wrong, it subsided. I wonder why I don't just feel full?

It does have to do with the vagus nerve. When I overeat even a little, my heart speeds up, my eyes tear, my nose runs and I get the hiccups. Along with the increased heart rate, there comes a slight feeling of anxiety. If I have overfilled my sleeve accidentally, sometimes part of it comes back up. The pressure of the overfill on the vagus nerve causes all of these symptoms. Since they are so disconcerting and uncomfortable, you'd think one would always eat slowly and carefully...but no, sometimes we are just ourselves. Thank goodness for the sleeve to remind us it is time to stop...K

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
