Can Splenda cause you to stall or gain ??

Recommended Posts

I have been up and down around 172-173 for the past 2 weeks. And ive only lost 5 lbs last month. I don't know if im in a stall. Ive gone over what has changed or what ive changed in my diet and ive started drinking Decaf iced tea now with splenda. im not sure if thats why my weight has been the way its been. Anyone have any idea? I got some stevia this morning and will try that, since its natural...any ideas friends?

I've been drinking coffee with Splenda since 1 month after surgery and I don't think it had any impact on my weight loss. It's not the Splenda--it's your body and its adaptation to losing weight. Some months I lost 8 or 9 lbs.--some months 3.5. My fourth month I lost 4 lbs. As long as you are tracking calories, Protein, and Water (plus carbs if you are low-carbing), don't worry about months with less weight loss. For me, the following month was usually great.

Juzme, I think you've hit a stall. I drink Decaf tea with splenda daily and I've had no problems with it. I did have the dreaded 3 week stall. It lasted 2 weeks, then I had a big drop, so I don't think Splenda affects me. Try changing things up and see if something jump starts the weight loss. Losing splenda is as good a thing to mix up as anything else. :)

I also have had Splenda and a few other 0 calorie sweeteners without any harm too. I keep seeing articles and posts touting that artificial sweeteners can make you gain weight but when it comes right down to it I don't see any plausible explanation as to WHY. They typically just mention the fact that it wakes up cravings for sweets causing the person to consume other high cal sweets, I haven't had it happen to me. I drink a few diet 0 cal sodas a week, 2 cups of coffee with Splenda a day and have pretty steadily lost. I recently started to lose again after being stalled at 210 for over a month but while my weight stayed the same my measurements kept decreasing, I was building muscle from working out and displacing fat.

Short answer - no one really knows, if they do their not coming out with a scientifically backed answer.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
