Having trouble consuming more then 20-30 oz of water per day.

Recommended Posts

The title pretty much says it all. I have tried Water cold, warm, with sf crystal light, sf koolaid.

I find I can only do a few sips every 30-60 minutes or I get stomach discomfort.

PS I am 6.5 weeks post op.

Has anyone experienced this?

I am also intaking my Protein, definately falling very short there. I eat slow but cant eat more than half an egg, quarter can of tuna etc. I am definately noticing a loss of muscle tone because of that to.

HI there,

I'm 5 weeks out tomorrow and I am having the same issues. Plain Water, cold, room temp doesn't matter it makes my stomach cramp. Crystal Light and other add ins are either too sweet or just icky. I have two go tos that seem to work. Room temp Gatorade G2 or my hot tea latte. That's it. I try to get in at least 30-40 ozs a day but I struggle too.

Totally normal. It gets easier. It was more than two months before I could regularly hit my intake goals for calories and Water. If you're not doing Protein shakes, you should be. Try to find one you can tolerate and hopefully enjoy. I am more than a year out but due to our crazy weird geographical location I'm limited to eggs, tuna and Kosher hot dogs for Protein, so I still drink one shake every day and sometimes two.

It helped to have my drinks warm or at room temp, like a previous poster mentioned.

Oh, and I'm 16 months out and I can still only eat one egg at a time. :smile1:

It's normal. I dislike the sweetness of a lot of the SF drinks, and Water seems too bland.

I usually drink Sobe Water, or I add a "shot glass" of juice to a glass of water for flavor. I like cranberry juice (I get the Diet version).

I have also flavored my water with Mio, but you have to be careful because too much ends up being way too sweet.

Sobe water, however, has been my saving grace.

Keep in mind that at 6.5 weeks out, you are probably getting liquids in other forms as well (broth, Soup, Protein shakes) and those all count towards meeting your 64 ounces of liquids.< /p>

this is what helped me. get a medicine cup from your pharmacy. have a water bottle with you at all times. fill your medicine cup with the Water and sip on that for 30 minutes....repeat every 30 minutes. if you do this all day you will get in 64 oz of water.

after i got used to this i then started freezing my water bottle. as the water thawed i would sip on that so that i didnt drink to much. good luck!

I have had the same trouble ... I can eat ICE ... I have bought bags of ice from SONIC ( they have crushed ice & not so hard on my teeth). I eat ice constantly throughout the day. I am able to drink the Water as it melts. This is my suggestion ... has worked for me. Good Luck!

I am 14 months out and had a TERRIBLE time post op trying to get my Water, Protein and Vitamins in. I finally had to just take it one day at a time and do the best I could possibly do and not be too hard on myself. I concentrated on making sure to get the fluids in first, then the Protein and then finally the Vitamins.

Take it one day at a time. It will get better :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
