OMG! Nausea, dry heaves, and more... proceed with caution...

Recommended Posts

I had a very frightening episode with nausea 2 day. I had an overwhelming case of nausea that made it difficult 2 swallow my own spit, followed by the wrenching with dry heaves and then the throwing up of mucus. What the heck is this about? Now I'm petrified to eat. Keep in mind I'd eaten a few hours prior. I'm post op 6 1/2 weeks.

It helps if you can figure out what triggered the nausea. For me right out after surgery the Protein Shakes made me ill. Also....wierd but if I take my Vitamins in the am with coffee they go down fine. Afternoon they make me hurl????Not sure why. What were you eating when the nausea struck? Might want to avoid it for now??? Also....the mucusy thing was better for me (right after surgery....now no prob) if I drank more had less problems with excess mucus. That got better for me about month 2. Good luck!

I'm 8 weeks out and have had one incident with nausea unrelated to food, but I was going in for outpatient surgery that morning, so I attributed it to nerves. I know, though, that taking a Vitamin with Iron on an empty stomach is a no-no. Could that be the source of your problem?

Also, drinking too fast or eating too much both make me feel icky. I havent' slimed or tossed to date, and I'm hoping that I never do so. The sleeve definitely runs our lives! :)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
