Started purees... no weight loss?

Recommended Posts

HI!

Sleeved on the 19th and lost 13lbs in the first 9 days. Then I switched to my pureed meals. Taking in about 600 calories a day right now. But since I started the pureed meals, I haven't lost any more weight. Normal?

I was sleeved on the 17th and the same thing seems to have happened to me. I think I weigh myself too much, if I only weighed myself once a week it would probably be better but its just too hard to resist to see if the numbers have gone down again, maybe I should move the scales from the bathroom? Here's hoping those numbers reduce for both of us

You're doing better than I. Tomorrow will be a week since my surgery. I average about 510 calories a day. I just drink Protein drinks at this point. And I weigh myself everyday and several times a day. I know I'm not supposed to, but I do anyway!:)

Sometimes it looks like I have dropped 2 pounds and then other times, like now, I am up a pound!

Unbelievable!

Ok, you cannot weigh yourself multiple times per day and expect meaningful results. Think about it, get a kitchen scale and measure a glass with 8oz of beverage in it, now weigh it empty. That is how much Fluid weighs. Now, consider how many oz of different density fluids you drink in a day, and subtract random bowel movements and urinations. Come on, get real, the old adage "you don't gain weight from the food you eat pound by pound", well that is only half the story.

One pound is 3500 calories; period. Rapid weight loss immediately before and after surgery is surrounded by a little sleight of hand. Your colon cleanse emptied your intestines of much weight. Your stay in the hospital dehydrated you, even more weight. So that is instant gratification, anyone can do that; it is called a CRASH DIET.

Where we are making the long-term gains is by maintaining a calorie deficit. If you only ingest 500-800 calories per day now, and you were maintaining prior to surgery with 2500-3000 calories, then there is our real goal. We have deducted 1500-2000 calories and you should lose about a pound every other day.

Once you begin exercising and keep this same calorie intake, you will lose even more, it is that simple.

This surgery is NOT a magic bullet that just sheds the pounds away, it is a tool to help control your appetite, and change your eating lifestyle for the rest of your life.

Be positive because you know you will lose 1-3+ pounds per week (provided you eat based on your dietician's advice) for the rest of the time you are overweight. Remember all of the DIETS that have failed you in the past, be positive about this tool and let it work for you.

I am weighing myself once per week; on a Tuesday morning, after my BM before I take my meds. That way it will be consistent, I can look forward to it, and it will be true loss and not just a bad hydration moment.

Paul,

I totally get what you are saying. But if I base my weight loss on weighing myself once a week, it doesn't matter if I weigh myself 100 times a day. So, tomorrow will be one week since I was sleeved. I am getting in 60 G of Protein a day with and consuming about 510 calories a day. And so far, I have not lost anything but Water weight from the hospital stay. Because I gained 6 pounds and quickly lost that.

BTW, I lost 53 pounds on my own before surgery. And I'm now doing less than half of the calories of pre-op. You'd think I would be melting!

Anyway, I will weigh myself in the morning and see if I've lost any weight. I know I will lose weight. I HAVE TO, based on the calories. It's just frustrating!

And so sorry about Hijacking the OP thread. It was not my intent. :)

I am 3 weeks out today and I had the same thing happen. I lost 8 lbs. in the first 7 days and then nothing for a week. Then all of a sudden this week I am losing like crazy. I lost 3 lbs. in 4 days this week. But even though it wasn't showing on the scale, my clothes were getting bigger and bigger so I know I lost a lot of inches. Just keep doing what you are doing and it will come off.

Also, for the weighing part - I keep weighing myself everyday just as a gauge. I know I shouldn't do that, but I can't seem to stop myself. That being said, I know that if the scale fluctuates from day to day, it has a lot more to do with Water and not fat loss. I couldn't possibly be gaining any actual weight with the little amount of calories I am taking in. I know that. For example, this morning I was 1/2 lb up from yesterday. I didn't let it upset me in the least. I only really care about the week to week numbers and the way my clothes fit. I am going to try to stop daily weighing, but its addicting when you see the pounds coming off!

This is not normal, You should still be losing weight. I had the same issue and it was because i was not changing my excersice routine. You need to add a minute a week and change up the routine. You need your heart rate to get higher in order to burn the food that you are eating and if you are not excercising then your body is using the 600 calories you are intaking as fuel and not needing to burn what is already there. make sense?

everyone is different, but here is what happened with me.

I was on a 2 week pre-op diet (lost 16 pounds), then 1 week of fluids post-op (Down 8 more pounds). Day 7 I started my pureed diet. On day 9 I hit a stall. Yes, I exercised. Yes, I stuck to Protein only and drank between 42-70 ounces of no calorie liquids a day and my calorie count was anywhere from 400-650 a day. The scale has just started moving again this week and I'm 26 days out.

Hang in there. Your body is trying to figure everything out!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
