I am scheduled to have a revision in Feb.

My doc isn't the same one that did my surgery as I

Moved. My new doc was reluctant to fill because he is used to a 10cc band and I have. 14cc band.

I scheduled the sleeve surgery and finally my doc filled me

To

Where I should be. I have been walking 2-3 miles 4/week and so far I have only lost 2 lobs since I had the fill.

My question still remains will I lose weight, and if that's what you believe,'why is it different than getting a fill.

L

Maybe a dumb question but trying to make decisions.

I'm a revision. I had no major problems with the lapband other than poor weight loss. It was either too loose or too tight, I only lost 50 lbs in 4 years, then I gained 10 back and still had 50 to go. I also hated the port. It just hurt all the time. Doc emptied it a week before my revision and I gained 5 more UGH. Anyway, the sleeve is a lot different. You absolutely can NOT over eat or you throw it up. I've lost 43 lbs since I was sleeved the end of June and I could not be happier. No more port, no more choking feeling. And no more overeating. There are also dangerous complications that can happen with the band such as slippage or erosion, that doesn't happen with the sleeve. My only problem with the sleeve is acid. Everyone says that's temporary and I hope so! That's my story!

The band has a mind of it's own. Sometimes it is tight and sometimes you can eat what you want. With the sleeve, you have consistant non-stop restriction. Also, with the ghrelin (hunger hormone) being reduced, I really feel that helps take away lots of the hunger. I do get a little hungry at meal times, but I just eat a small amount and then I am full and content. The sleeve gives you restriction that lasts.

I threw up just about everything I ate with the band, it was horrible. It was either too loose or too tight. I never got close to goal weight with the band and managed to gain back some of what I did lose. Then 4 years after having the band it slipped on me. I had it removed and had a revision to the sleeve on 06/23/11. HANDS DOWN, the best thing I ever did. It's been a little over 4 months since surgery and I have never thrown up a meal. I can eat a small portion and I feel like I ate a brick I am so full. I feel as though the sleeve does exactly what they said it would do where as with the band it did not. Everyone is different though. You are going to love your sleeve in comparison to the band. Good Luck!!!

The sleeve is 100% different than that band. The band worked for me for 3 months and then that was it. Several fills / unfills never made a difference. After 3 years, I started really putting the weight back on.

I was sleeved almost 8 months ago and I am hovering near my goal weight. I still eat less than a quarter of what I used to eat. In fact, I eat up to 6 times a day to get enough calories in to keep me from feeling tired / depleted. I lose about 1/2 a pound a week now, but I don't really weigh myself too much anymore. I am really happy with where I am.

The sleeve is completely different from the band.

good luck on your decision--

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
