body not liking liquids after sleeve....

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved Oct 25th 2011. I am so nauseated. Just got home today. Nausea does improve daily, but I can't tolerate Water. Ugh. I can do thickened drinks better. Does anyone else experience anything like this? I really wish I could drink more as I know I will get dehydrated. Help me~~~~~

Hi there, I have grown to dislike water...every single time I drink it my stomach cramps and feels icky. I have had better luck with Gatorade G2 drinks as they are as good as Water and are low in sugar (another sensitivity I have now). I drink my Protein Shakes blended with a half of a frozen banana to thicken and have no problem with them either, just water and water mixed with Crystal Light or other add ins. Hope this helps!

I am doing fine with pretty much all liquids that are not Protein Shakes. My body is just over them. I am trying to sneak the powder into other things like smoothies to make it more tolerable. Have you tried any drink additives? I have crystal lite packets stashed in my purse and I feel like it offers me a better option than just plan Water. Before surgery, I was able to drink things at room temperature, but now everything has to be ice cold or I can't handle it. I am constantly swapping my drinks in and out of the fridge.

Thanks for the ideas. This am I was able to drink some room temp crystal lite lemonade. I am just staying away from Water at this point. My nausea is better daily. Thank goodness. I will just need to put unflavored Protein in my yougurt, my applesauce, anything I try to eat to boost my protein intake.

I am 6 months out and drinking Water still hurts a little when it hits my stomach. Try to drink 20 ounces when you first wake up, 20 more an hour before lunch and 20 more before bedtime. I highly recommend that you drink Vitamin Water Zero. I found that when I started to drink VWZ the pounds started shedding.

Bonnie---I do sleep in bed, but prop myself up on three pillows. It is little uncomfortable getting out but not bad. I am dreaming of my own bed, as I am staying at my parents until next tuesday as Dr. felt like I needed a support system since I am single and no kids. :)

I have got down more today in these few hours than I did the entire time at the hospital. 630 am I had 3 bites of yougurt with pills. At 8 I had 3 oz skim milk, at 830 I had 3 0z crystal lite then at 930 I had 2 oz of instant oatmeal with added Protein powder and skim milk. No nausea so far. So excited.

There is no way I can drink more than 2 oz at a time. It takes me forever to sip. I am taking it slow as I have been miserable since surgery. So far today is a great day!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
