skifast1998 0 Posted January 17, 2012 Hi Sandy, I'm from Massachusetts and I'm scheduled for VSG Surgery on 2/16/12 at Lahey Clinic. Sounds like you've had a positive experience with your VSG Surgery. Any tips pre-op that you can share with me? Are you happy you had the surgery? Thanks in advance. Sandy123 7 Posted January 21, 2012 Hi, Well, first of all congratulations. You are definately at the right place to go for any questions you have about VSG. Pre op all I did was read about it, talk to people who had wls, and watched every YouTube video I could find. I think the best thing was how prepared I was and how much I wanted to do it. There was no doubt, so I never got the blues after. The pre op diet sucked. I did 2 weeks which is hard because your hungry and you want to have "food funerals" but I was so afraid they would cancel the surgery that I did well and lost 12lbs. The surgery went great. The first day your just exhausted because of the anesthesia but you need to walk because the gas pain is pretty bad. After they took the catheter out I got up and walked during the night because there was less people around. Once they took the iv's out and the drain they put in one of the incision it was much more comfortable to move. Seriously, I had the surgery on a Tuesday came home on Thursday and on Friday went to the grocery store with my hubby. I walked slow and didn't lift anything but I was out. We went to target on Saturday, Monday I was cleaning my house and on Wednesday I went back to the gym to walk slowly on the treadmill. My surgery was on Nov 1, and so far from before preop I have lost 52lbs. I wish I had done this years ago. It amazes me that I can eat whatever I want just in very small amounts and lose weight. I do alot of Protein and I work out 5 days a week and I feel great. You will be VERY happy. If you want to friend me on Facebook, I am part of a group of women who are in all stages of the surgery. Pre thru years. It's a great group and I can add you if you want. Good luck. You will definately not regret it!!! My Facebook name is Sandra jean wood Williams. 1 skifast1998 reacted to this
skifast1998 0 Posted January 21, 2012 Hi Sandy, Thanks for the response. I appreciate it. I've never had surgery in my life! I guess I've been really lucky so this has added to my anxiety but I have not made this decision lightly. I've also read everything online and watched ALOT of youtube videos. Initially I was going to get LapBand but know a few people in my inner circle that have not had great success with it. I only want to do this once so opted for VSG... From what I see and read the majority of folks are happy with it. Congratulations on your success!! I hope to be in your cirlce soon. I have over 100 lbs to lose... I can't wait til I can fit into chairs and move freely to ride a bike, walk more etc. I love to move and be outdoors but now I'm held back due to my size.
