throwing up after i take my vitamin!

Recommended Posts

My surgery was on 10/10 and the first two weeks I was fine but then Monday I started throwing up everytime I took my multi Vitamin. I was on a anti nausea patch the first two weeks and now I have phenegram suppositories that are not helping. I take prilosec every morning too. Has anyone else had this? I go back to work 11/10 and I have a really stressful job...I can't keep having these unexpected things happen... I need to be completely good before I go back to work!

I too had that issue. I found that I needed something in my tiny tummy. I could no longer take my multi on an empty stomach. Don't know if I helped any.

I started taking my Multi-Vitamin about a month before surgery and was fine, after surgery, they made me soooo nauseated. Never threw up, but felt bad for about an hour after taking it. At 4 weeks out, I was able to take pills bigger than an m&m and I switched to Centrum. Those don't make me sick at all.

I had the same problem until I started eating a meal and then taking the Multivitamin. I highly recommend taking most Vitamins with food, but that is just my opinion.

I just recently switched from chewables to tablets -- same brand of Vitamin. This morning I took my multi and 3 Calcium 500 tablets, and I went into overdrive for saliva production. I was worried I was going to get sick, but I didn't. I think it was because I took the Vitamins on an empty stomach. Once I had some food in there, I felt fine.

Tomorrow, I plan on eating a bit before taking the Vitamins. I'll let you know if that helps.

PJ713, It's the Iron in the Vitamins that triggers the nausea for me. Have you tried a chewable Vitamin? If not, try eating about half your meal, then chewing up the vitamin, then eat the rest of your meal. That works for me.

I found that the women's one a day and the Celebrate Vitamins both made me extremely nauseated. I stick to the Flintstone Completes and those don't bother me at all...empty stomach or not.

I was fine the first 5 days taking the multi they gave me at the hospital, but days 6 and 7 I threw them right up. I bought a new brand of the chewables and no problems after that. I spoke with many people that had the same experience with the brand from the hospital but did just fine with the store bought brand.

I have the same problem. I tried chewables, liquid and cut my costco daily multi in half (that was the worst!) and major nausea with each. My dietician just told me I may be a little sensitive right now (less than 3 weeks out) and it's ok to try a Gummy Vitamin for the time being. I'll try my regular multi in a few weeks. Somehow, my b-12, b1 and d3 all go down fine...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
