Missnurse 9 Posted October 27, 2011 So my list of Vitamins to purchase includes Vitamin D3 50,000 IU once a week. However, I cannot find this anywhere. The pharmacist said its only my prescription but I don't really think that. Anyone else taking this dose? The highest I could find was 2,000 Where can I find it? Thomas CPA 496 Posted October 27, 2011 50,000 IU is prescribed for those with Vitamin D deficiency, it is not a normal dosage to take. I have a Vitamin D deficiency and was on 50,000 IU for 4 months to get levels up and now on 2,000 per day to maintain.
Missnurse 9 Posted October 27, 2011 I found a website that sells this dose that's why I'm curious. My surgeon wants me on it weekly for idk how long. I'll have to ask at my preop appt I guess.
fluffylibra30 323 Posted November 22, 2011 i also have a Vitamin D deficiency and i take 2 1.25 mg of drisdol weekly, which equals 100,000 IU if i did the math right. Im thinking the doc wouldnt have prescribed it if you could find it over the counter. Good luck finding the answer.
Amanda131 214 Posted November 22, 2011 When I had it prescribed I had to go to a "compounding" pharmacy to have it filled. It couldn't be found over the counter. Good Luck! Amanda

My first surgeon did labs and never mentioned anything about taking vit d even though I was low in my my numbers. When I switched surgeons he has all his patients take 50,000IU weekly. Chimera 644 Posted December 6, 2011 My surgeons office recommends 10,000 IU's a day for us - they have handouts in the office that explain the the RDA for those living in the Northern parts of North America (or anyone else at and above our latitude, I am in Seattle) is much too low. Protocol brand is the type I get from the office - two droppers full a day - no taste at all. http://www.protocolforlife.com/Products/Category/074557.htm?cat=Vitamins
