1 month out and nothing is going right

Recommended Posts

:( I had my surgery on Septemebr 27,2011. Ive oniy been out of the hospital for a week now (way over the 2 expected days I planned for). Unfortunatley the doctor has me on TPN at home for 12 hours a day. This is depressing and I feel like I have no life. I have to stay at my sisters because my house has too many stairs. I miss my kids (they were not allowed in the hospital because they are under 12 yrs), I miss my husband, i miss my job (AMAZING) and I just really miss my life. I dont go outside, ive become a recluse. I am struggling with food and liquids. what can I do to get myself back on the healthy track? Any food suggestions? Anyone out there on TPN also?

TPN stands for Total Parenteral Nutrition basically if someone cannot eat/drink or get their nutrients in a patient is placed on TPN going in through a PICC (specially place IV)

I am not on TPN but have patients who are. They are not wls patients tho so I would just say take it slow. Remember TPN isnt forever and their goal is to slowly reduce your time on it until you are off of it compelety.

I don't have much advice since I am pre op but I wish you all the best and hope you recover super fast!

So sorry to hear about this.

There are others on the forum who had complications adn were on a picc line for extended amount of time after surgery. I know Tiffykins had serious complications, but she is probably busy having her baby any minute so she may not be monitoring the group.

This is not forever.

The good news is that the doctors are giving you what you need right now to recover. This is going to be really hard, but you can do it!! It will get better.

Hi Toniawf

It is saddening to hear this, but this will not last forever and there is honestly nothing you can eat to relieve this. Considering the TPN is a inflammatory bowel disease you have to allow yourself time to heal. Take it easy and try to relax and remember to follow your doctors orders. If you feel your doctor is not giving you the treatment you require you have the right to seek another physician.

Keep us posted regarding your progress!

How are you doing now? It's been more than a week since your post. Sometimes a few days will change your entire perspective.

Right now you're in regret mode because of your complicated healing process. It will get easier. We ALL struggle with liquids in the beginning, you're definitely not alone there.

Update and let us know how you're feeling, so we can help with advice or support.

~Cheri

Do come back to the board often. Read up here on others that have been in the same situation. It does really help. You are welcome here, and in no time you will be back into your regular routine, except you will be losing weight to goal!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
