I am 3 weeks out and have lost 36lbs. I have finally been upgraded to soft foods. My question is how much could/should I eat. When I ask the nutritionist she just says "not much" I do not want to get sick. I dont really feel like I get a full feeling but I am not taking in more than and ounce or two at a time of food or liquids. I still get my Protein through drinks to be safe but I really would like to start having some regular food. Suggestions? What were you guys eating at this point?

First of all you will know when you are "full." You just can't take in another bite even if there is just one more bite left on your plate. If you take in that bite you will feel it for the new few minutes. It is just an uncomfortable feeling. Secondly, I started out very slowly on eating foods. I ate cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, refried Beans, tuna salad, Soups, and soft things starting at two weeks. I had no problem getting anything down but I still started out slowly until I felt comfortable eating "real" food. Hope this helps you.

Congrats on the weight loss. After liquids is the soft food phase. I was advised to never eat more than 4 oz at one time. And of course never to eat and drink at the same time. I would stop drinking about 10 minutes before eating and after eating wait 45 minutes until drinking again. During the soft food phase I was eating eggs, lots of popsicles, yogurt, cottage cheese and Soup. Sometimes I did have mashed potatoes. Good luck to you!

p.s. for me during the soft food phase I didn't feel hungry nor did i feel full. it is important to have guidelines like no more than 4 oz because it takes awhile after surgery for your body to start telling you it is full. this was my experience!

There is the "cottage cheese" test, you eat cottage cheese real fast until you are full you fill the container with Water and measure how much Water is in the container. I think it is silly also.

Typical response is a cup, 8 oz or as my doctor said you have a stomach the size of a medium banana - don't eat more than that. Easy on soft foods to overeat as they are easy to swallow.

Good luck
