Another common post-op phase or just me?

Recommended Posts

Okay, Here I go again...6 weeks post-op as of this Friday and I feel okay EXCEPT... if I stand for too long of periods of time I get a pain in the center of my back and then my abdomin feels strained. If I am making dinner for my husband I might have to sit fo a couple of minutes every so often just to relieve the pain.

Is this another phase I have to go through or am I doing something wrong? Any of you go thru this??? UGH

Janet

I did experience something similar but really was the first two weeks post op. I believe it came from laying down so much.

To be on the up & up perhaps you should seek advice from your Surgeon. :) I hope everything is OK! Keep us updated, please!

Sounds to me like you may have to strenghten your core and back muscles. . . I have that problem and have to be really careful that i don't pull my back. . .it's injuries that occured since my obesity and now that i've lost weight i feel them a bit more. . . strenghten you back muscles and core muscles could help. . . good luck

I am 15 days post op and having the exact same issue. I had a followup with my doctor a week ago - he said I probably tweaked my back using the terrible hospital bed or laying around so much. He also mentioned that it could be a sign of a bad gallbladder, but said this doesn't usually become an issue until months 3-6 post-op, from the quick weight loss. "Something to watch," he said. I asked if it would be okay for me to have a massage to work on it and he said as long as I can tolerate lying on my tummy, it isn't a problem. I have a massage scheduled for tomorrow morning. Hopefully it will help.

Had similar problems. Got better by working on lower back weight training at the gym. Part of problem in the quick weight loss is you loose both fat and Muscle

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
