Dealing with people being jealous of weight loss?

Recommended Posts

Thanks everyone for your responses. I am pretty sure I will just let it slide this time, but if I find it happens again so obviously, I will sit down and have a talk with her.

My sister in law and i have always been close. About a year ago, my best friend, my sister in law and me decided to move forward with our plans to get sleeve surgery. Well, my best friend and i got our surgeries approved by our insurance companies and my sister in law did not get her surgery approved. My best friend was sleeved on Dec 11, and i was sleeved on Dec 17. Since then my sister in law has been saying catty things to me in regards to both me and my best friend. I can tell she is very jealous. I think its pathetic. She has always been very insecure in the past but this is other level. She has been nothing but saying hurtful things. I'm over it. I just don't want to deal with that kind of negativity every time i see her. Our relationship used to be so much better than this. I'm praying that things will change for the better but for now I'm keeping my distance.

Jealousy really is a monster! I recognize myself as having been very catty, jealous woman when I'm unhappy with myself and/or depressed. My sister has always kept a trim figure and I'm ashamed to say that I would say the snarkiest comments to her when I felt really insecure about my appearance when she looked hot. I love her with all my heart, but when I'ld see her wearing a skimpy sexy outfit at the beach or a BBQ and there I was in my mu-mu- the hatred I felt toward myself would come out of me directed at her! Now, I'm losing the weight once and for all and I feel ashamed of the way I treated her (and the things I've thought or said about fit and trim women my whole life when I was dying of jealousy!) As long as women are unhappy with themselves, there will be b****y women-regardless if they're your co-worker, your friend or even your sister. Now I make it a point to encourage, compliment and empower the women in my life. I want to bring positive energy to my relationships, losing the negative with the pounds!

PS-I love the pants falling down story! Priceless!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
