Hi All, I am Tammy! I was sleeved on 9/27 at the University of Minnesota with Dr. Ikramuddin! For 3 days I thought I made the biggest mistake ever. I had so much pain etc... I didn't notice a big difference until about 7 days out. It didn't help that I had a cough, that may have made things worse. OUCH! Today I am so thrilled so far with my sleeve. I have lost 31 pounds today, 9 pre op. I couldn't be happier and already feel so much better and have more energy. The weight is starting to slow down which is depressing, I want it to all fall off today... I am just so excited for the future and for every morning to feel a little lighter. So anyone out there with surgery coming up or just thinking about it, GO FOR IT! I have been starting on my normal diet and trying to get Protein in. Thank goodness I love meat and cheese and yogurt. We have been getting really clever with meals! I took 5 weeks off from work and have this whole week left. Last week I finally felt back to normal and started walking etc. I have had quite a bit of heartburn though, so taking Prilosec and have Pepcid and Tums on hand. It seems to take the heartburn away really quickly so that is good!

Anyways, I just wanted to share my story so far and introduce myself to this site!!!

Hi Tammy and welcome to VST.

I am so glad that you are feeling better and starting to appreciate your new sleeve. I had my surgery August 29th and I also had a difficult start. Extreme swelling which prevented anything from flowing through to my sleeve. That meant that any liquid I tried to take in eventually found it's way back up & out. Needless to say, I was very sick and spent the first five days in the hospital. I had my surgery on a Monday and by Friday I was pacing the floors because I was soo ready to get the **** out of there. I am feeling great now and love the fact that 1 ounce of beef jerkey or any meat fills up my tiny sleeve. It is such a kick to think about how small my meals are now, just crazy!

Enjoy this ride and have faith because the weight will continue to come off. The scale is moving very slowly for me now but I am losing inches like crazy. I think I move down to a smaller size every couple weeks. I am loving the clearance racks at Penney's and Ross!

Welcome to our friendly little community and may God Bless You through this healing time!

Hugs,

Shell

Thanks for the encouragement and the stories. I got my first "Wow" today from my hair dresser. She didn't know anything about the surgery and wanted to know what my secret was. It is realy fun when people start to notice...

Good luck to you too, I am sorry for your rough start. Mine was just pain! I am enjoying the clearance racks too, hate to buy too much, but you want to show off so bad!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
