Water while working out

Recommended Posts

This may be me being overly crazy, but one of the things that I'm most concerned about post surgery is the ability to take a big gulp of Water while I'm working out. Maybe I over estimate how much I "guzzle" when I'm working out, but I'm worried that I won't be able to quench my thirst. Am I just being irrational? You know there is nothing like a nice drink of water!

Eager to hear your thoughts and thank you in advance.

We were just discussing this at my group meeting. I am still pre-op, but a lot of people there are post-op. Anyway I was watching a guy drinking Water and in one hour he drank 2 bottles of Water, he was definetly gulping them. I don't think anyone can take big drinks right out of the gate, but maybe a couple months in you can drink normal. Some people have to take small sips longer than others, because everyone reacts differently. Overall though I would say after a good 4-5 months you should be able to drink pretty normally.

I struggled with this the first month out but I am now 3 months out and somewhere about 3-4 weeks ago I quit struggling with this. It is much easier!

When I am on the treadmill or bike, I just sip sip sip, and I can down an entire bottle while working out at a good pace. You will make it work.

I am 5 weeks out today and I can take quite a big gulp... the only difference is that I can only take one and I can't down the entire bottle anymore. However, each day gets easier and easier to drink. At the beginning you have to sip sip sip, and eventually you get used to it. As long as you stay hydrated you won't necessarily feel the need to take huge gulps anymore.

I am 6 months out and I gulp gulp gulp when I am in my Zumba class. I used to like my Water room temp but now I drink it ice cold. It quenches and goes down easy....just as long as I haven't eaten for a half hour before...

Living the dream,

Laura

I can drink quite a bit of Water while on the treadmill but if I drink too fast I will get a very dull cramp - which doesn't last long. Initially, it may be hard for you to drink but as time goes by it does get very easy. Before you know it, all of the sip sipping will be out the window and you'll drink regularly. I'm nearing the end of my 7th week and probably sipped for the first 3 weeks.

All the best,

Niki

It does get easier to drink Water. When I walk I carry 32 ounces with me and I can drink all of it in about 45 minutes. When doing zumba I can drink just as much. So yes, the further out you are from surgery it is easier to get more fluids in. You will be able to gage what you will be able to drink and how much as you go through the transistion. Good luck with your journey! :)

I am over a year out and I can take about a half dozen gulps when working out.

I am 5 months post op, I drink almost 3 liters of Water daily, Taking mouthful gulps still hurts me a little while going down, and if I drink a 16 oz bottle half way in 10 minutes I feel super stuffed. Still? yes still, my surgeon says everyone is different so I guess I have to trust him lol

I'm four weeks today and I noticed a few days ago that I've been drinking like before the surgery. At first it was small sips but I can drink normally now and take bigger drinks with no problem.

Pre-op I could down a 16 oz bottle in a few seconds, no problem. Must have been my college days chugging beer, but it always fascinated people and for the most part, that is how I drank Water at home or at the club. Fill a 12 oz glass and down it. Now, post-op, at almost 5 months, I can 'chug' about 4 oz. If I try more, I am on the doorstep of slimes.

This has been a major adjustment for me. I now have to remember to drink smaller drinks more often ... at home or at the club. So, when I was doing a 45 minute spinning class, I would drink my 24 oz bottle in 3 drinks spaced out. Now, I drink it in about 12 drinks spaced out. I just have to have smaller intervals between drinks.

I'm 4 weeks out and more than 6-8 ounces during my workouts makes me nauesated and crampy. Before surgery I drank 8-20 ounces easy.

Do what feels right for now and maybe try to pre-hydrate for your workouts.

I'm 3 and a half weeks out and I hike 2-3 miles everyday now....and I'm downing at least 20 oz in that time. I've noticed I don't drink any differently now than I did pre surgery....restriction only comes with full liquids/food.

this was a huge deal for me. i didnt realize pre op how hard it was going to be just to drink Water. for the first month i could hardly drink water at all, and when i tried it had to be room temp because cold was to harsh on my tummy. i am so happy to report that now i can drink normally. i dont gulp, but i am definatly able to drink like a normal person and quinch my thirst. good luck! :)

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
