Anyone have bad dreams preop?

Recommended Posts

I had this dream last night where I just had the surgery and just popped out of bed and was walking around the hospital with no pain whatsoever and everyone was just amazed at my wonderful recovery (lol) and I had no problems getting any liquids down. I ended up being able to eat more than I did preop. I remember thinking that I wasn't sure if the surgery even happened even though I had the incisions.

I woke up all confused wondering if anyone else has had these dreams? Of course the surgery is on my mine 24/7 literally..

I don't even have a surgery scheduled yet & I've been having weird dreams! Mine are more like end-of-the-world dreams...and in one last night, I had something wrong with my stomach. So, I figure they are happening because I have really been thinking a lot about the surgery the past few days. I got my insurance acceptance letter last week, so that kicked me into high gear thinking about whether I am 100% sure about doing this. I still haven't made my mind up. Tomorrow I go in to do a bunch of testing and evaluations, so maybe I will feel closer to a decision afterwards. It's good to know others are having unusual dream too:-) Hope mine turn around to the positive like yours!

I can't say if I had weird dreams PRE OP but get ready for kooky POST OP dreams! It's fairly common for people to have lingering side effects from the anesthesia and pain meds and have totally bizarre dreams from it.

I had worst- case scenario dreams before surgery. Mine were so bad that I spent some time writing down all the things I was worried about, then I did what I could to prepare for anything that might happen. I re-did my Will and estate planning documents, wrote love letters to my kids (both adults), talked to family and friends who are important to me. Then I made myself stop worrying.

For me, it was surreal going into surgery. I kept thinking that I wasn't really going to do this. I was still thinking it when I was being given the gas to knock me out. I remember telling the nurse goodbye and then waking up and going "What?!" The nurse immediately came over and started talking to me. THAT was when I realized I had really done this...and that I'd had surgery, but wasn't stuck taking a baby home from the hospital! LOL

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
