Going to Dr Ramos Kelly next week....I'm really hoping that I'll have some time to go shopping, as long as my recovery goes ok. Is there anywhere close to the Lucerne hotel that is safe to go? I'd also like to go to a pharmacy and I'm wondering if theres a pharamacy close to hotel too. Any tips on where to go and where to avoid?

I will be there on the 3rd getting all my tests done that day and surgery on the 4th with Dr. Kelly. I was wondering the same thing. My daughter is wanting to do some shopping if possible and I don't know what's in the area. I'm sure I will see you either in the hospital or the hotel. Man, it's getting close.

There is a great mall not too far from Lucerna.. I loved it! It was totally safe, but if you don't speak spanish it is a bit of a challenge. My coordinator was Trish and she took us to the mall.. she helped us to know how much to pay for things and translated for us. I am Canadian so the second language we learn is French..We were hopeless..lol

You can talk to the guys that take your luggage at the hotel.. some of them speak English and can tell you where to go and how to get there. There is also a Pharmacy at the mall. I bought cream for scars.

Hope this helps :)

I'll be down there on the 3rd as well for the tests with surgery on the 4th. I heard stories of Trish taking patients out to certain shops that she has deals with the owners. I also heard of people feeling safe enough to walk the streets of Tijuana. Not sure I will do that though.

(Edit; NINJAed by itscometothis... haha)

Trish is the bomb, She took me shopping and to the mall. We spent most of my last day together. She helped me with the conversion of dollars to pesos and made sure I was not getting ripped off. That was one off the main reasons I chose Dr Kelly was because off Trish I had heard so many nice things about her. She even took my Mom to get something to eat. She goes out of her way to make the whole experience memorable. I would highly recommend her. If you need her info you can PM me. I am sorry but I don't remember how to get to where she took me. All I know is there is some crazy drivers in those round abouts.:D

Yes the drivers are crazy so be careful!! I left a day early so I didn't get to go shopping with the others, but Trish did take them to the area where you can shop and I know my sleeve sisters companions went to a mall to shop and also went to the movies. But I didn't venture very far from the hotel myself. Good luck to all of you that have surgery dates with Dr Kelly soon, he and Trish are truly wonderful.

:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
