Meli,

Thanks so much for responding...this forum has helped me so much. Children are a wonderful gift and I can imagine all the fun you two are going to have after your surgery. I wish you all the best on your surgery! Is your surgery on Holloween?

I am 7 days until surgery and still have moments where I am scared, but I know the payoff will be worth it. I have a 22 month old son and my fears are more for him, than myself. I know it will be tough, but I am excited about the new life it will bring for me and my family! Best wishes to you!

Hello Klus,

Thanks. Its so nice to see someone who has the same starting weight as me! I was afraid my lower BMI would make me lose too much weight. But, I see you are doing GREAT! I understand about the larger size clothes. The other day, I walked into Lane Bryant, Catherines, and Dress Barn Woman and didn't buy a thing. It was like saying goodbye to my old life. I looked at a size 12 pants and thought...in 8 months I could be in that size. So, that kind of motivated me to keep going.

I was so ready for surgery. I had very little worries as this was the best decision I ever made for myself. Just think of what your life is going to be like when you are thin and healthy. I had a hard time imaging shopping in regular stores but as I got closer to surgery time, I started looking at those style of clothes knowing that it wasn't going to be long before I buy in normal stores instead fo looking at big sized clothing that even my grandmother wouldn't wear. Hang in there and soon you will realize that there was no need to worry. Good Luck.

i just read your post and i am almost 8 months after my surgery and i had the same feeling i felt i wasnt ready and wasnt sure i was making a good decision even up until the day of surgery i struggled with this. Even walking to my operating room with my parents i started to shake and cry and after it was done and i woke up in the surgery room screaming at my dr what did i do to myself what did i let you do this to me. Now looking back at it all it wasnt as bad as i had thought it was going to be. You have to keep remembering this is the best thing that you could do for yourself and i tell myself every day this was the best thing i have ever done for myself and if i had the chance to go back and re think my decision i would not change it, even with the pain i had and getting use to the way your body now works it was all worth it. Now being so far out i dont even remember what the pain was like, just remember its perfectly normal to be afraid but in the end it will be the best thing you have done !

Ladies, You are both about to do the best thing EVER for yourselves. I am 7 weeks out from surgery (Aug 30, 2011) and I've lost 50 pounds. I have more energy than I've had in years and my co-morbidities are slowly resolving themselves. I feel like a whole new person. And, I was one who was convinced I wouldn't survive surgery!

This will make it so much easier to lose the weight and will help you overcome health problems! :) I wish you both luck!!! :)

Meli,

What if I can't cope?

I think you need to realize its ok to feel a range of emotions before any surgery, and especially in a life changing one. We are about to enter a new unknown to us, but that's where we have to trust those who've gone before and our skilled surgeons. We need to keep in touch with those who will lift us up when we need it and just listen when we need to talk. Family and friends are a good resource to cope, but this site is where we find people who know exactly what we've been through from pre surgery weight issues to our jitters and issues after. You are stronger than you give yourself credit for, and I have a sneaking suspicion that as we go through our weight loss phase your confidence and self assurance will soar. Here's to reaching for the stars!!! Best wishes!

Effective today I am exactly 2 weeks pre-op. My surgery is scheduled for Nov 9th. I started my pre-op liquid diet today and have to go in for my PCP medical clearance. I've decided that in order for me to stay sane during these next 2 weeks, I've got to stop reading so much. Reading was great when I was in my research mode, but now that I'm approved and scheduled, I think (for me) I need to take a break and only read things like liquid diet food choices for support. I need to filter nothing but positive energy into my spirit. My decision is made and I can't allow anybody's bad experiences or regrets to cause me to second guess the best decision I can make for myself right now. My advise to anyone who has a date scheduled and are working your pre-op liquid diet-----watch what you read. I'm really going to read as much positive, encouraging, inspirational pieces as I can. Blessings2u--BJ

Hello shellnsons,

You won't be alone. I'm going to pray for an Angel to be with you during your surgery and recovery. You have incredible courage to do this by yourself. But, don't fear, I will be praying for you on the 5th.

Turtlegirl

I feel the samey way my surger is two weeks away on November 5th and I am going to Mexico alone...I feel nervous but at the same time I am thinking positive...looking forward to the years ahead beding healthy and off my meds...Good Luck on your Journey :D

Pre-surgery jitters are totally normal...find (and use) a good support group, only you will know what desicion is best for you.

I had pretty good jitters after making my surgery date, but once I got on the pre-op diet I just remained focused on the outcome and the tremendous benefits that come with it!!!

Good luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
