Just curious if there is anyone out there over 3 months post-op that DID NOT lose hair? or am I doomed!!!?

Your probably doomed. I am 2 1/2 months and my hair thinned pretty good. Go to Hairmax website they have a product you can use to make it look fuller. Synthetic hair fibers which I use when having important meetings and it works nicely. You just sprinkle the stuff on and hold with hairspray, works well for me.

Not one person in my local support group has gotten that lucky ;) Mine started at 2 months and is still falling out at 8 months. Thank goodness I had super thick hair to start with because it is quite thin now.

Mine started falling out about 13 weeks post-op and fell out for the next 3 1/2 months. Gone from a head full of thick hair, to very thin wirey hair. My hairdresser did say that I have tons of new Hair growth and said it was probably from the Biotin. Good luck

I am hoping for the best I am almost 3 months out and have not lost any! And I am up to 1200 cals min. a day-- that helps. I am 50lbs down since surgery.

I had no appreciable hair loss beyond that of most 50 YO males do. It seems that it's the same now as it was a year ago.

And I know I will get boo'd and hissed at but there is NO supplements that will help the loss, while all of them "sound" good they are all snake oil and do not work. Give it time and the shock of the operation and the massive loss of caloric intake will subside and the hair will begin to grow again - sans what you might lose due to aging anyway.

mine started falling out at the 4month mark and has slowed down a bit but is very thin but I am able to work around it for now. I have been taking Biotin long before my surgery. A friend of mine who did not have surgery but has been dieting had a lot of Hair loss as well, so its not just us, just the diet part I guess. I can see where mine is starting to grow back so maybe the regrowth will out weigh the hair loss, here's hoping at least. I have not met anyone who has not lost some hair yet either, but 3 months of hair loss for a lifetime of weight loss, priceless!!!

My Hair loss has been very minimal. I think it is because I have lost my weight very gradually tho and not really fast. I think the ones that lose 5-10lbs a week lose the most hair. I have lost like 1-3lbs on average every week and I lose like 8 hairs a day. Not a big deal. You can not tell that I lose any. I am very fortunate!

I am 11 weeks out, and I have had hair loss. I started noticing it at 2 months. The biggest thing that I noticed was in the progress pictures I take showing my back side. In the photo the night before my surgery, the hair past my shoulders was full and completely solid. Two months later in the same pose, I could see my shoulders through the hair - in places it was big gaps.

I had my hair cut to shoulder length to hide the worst of it. I also have very thick hair, so it isn't anything anyone besides me and my hairdresser would notice.

I have also decided to hold off coloring my hair until my hair fully recovers.

I do take Biotin, but it is for new growth not preventing Hair loss.

One of my friends who had the sleeve became so upset with the hair loss that she took clippers to her hair. I don't think I'd go that far -- I hate myself in short hair. :)

Well I didn't have any Hair loss until 5 months. Thought I was one of the lucky ones but its been falling out steadily since then. Scary when you see it in your hands. Only noticible to me and workable but def a LOT thinner. Praying that it doesn't get worse.

I lost quite a bit of hair, and yes I believe its mostly due to weight loss rather than surgery itself. Most people on "crash diets" lose hair, some significantly some less so.

I've been taking Biotin since around 3 Mos post op. I was taking 2,500 mcg for many many months and noticed regrowth was really good. However recently (like a month now) I started taking GNC brand Biotin in dry form and 5,000 mcg. Wow, my Hair growth is out of this world now... so just a thought. :)

As mentioned, Biotin DOES NOT prevent Hair loss. It only helps with re-growth. It's also a bonus on finger and toe nails as well.

Good luck!

Hmmm ... I'm two weeks shy of 4 months and haven't had any Hair loss, but I have to say I'm pretty anal about getting my Protein. Perhaps that may be it? I get my hair cut at the same intervals as before, so ...

It is coming out everyday! I have had it in a bun for a couple of weeks because I don't really want to know, but I have to color it. It is super gray! I bought some color from the store because I can't afford to go to the Salon right now. I might have to cut it short, but for now it is ok. I am certain I will lose more.

Mine started at about 3 months post op. It was horrible for about 2 weeks and then seemingly stopped. I thought I had gotten lucky, however, last week it started falling out horribly again (I'm now 4.5 months out) and my hair is definitely thinner. Thankfully, I had very very thick hair to begin with, but I have lost a substantial amount at this point with no end in sight. :(

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
