Pain after surgery

Recommended Posts

Ok so I had surgery on the 20th of this month and they also did a hernia repair, and i was so happy to come home and sleep in my own bed, but I can't. I can't get comfortable on either side all I can do is lay on my back. It hurts all the way up through my shoulders is that just gas caused I've been walking. I know I'm only a few days out but am I being a wimp? Even when I try drinking something it feels like there is gas trying to come up at the same time. Any advice?

You're not a wimp. It was very uncomfortable for me too. I spent the first week out sleeping my nights on my couch. It is most likely gas. But if it increasingly painful and you aren't getting any relief, you may want to contact your Dr. Shoulder pain can be indicative if a leak. Leaks are extremely rare so try not to worry. But if you feels worse you should contact your Dr. xoxoxoxo

Hi, my name is Susan G and i have a question for you, what happens to the staples, I been meaning to ask my doctor but i have an appt until the 2nd. I Saw the video of the surgery and the thought of the staples just hanging kills me.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU! hope you feel better soon.

I guess the staples just stay or maybe they dissolve over time.... I never thought to ask .

I slept in a recliner for over 2 weeks! There was no way I could lie in be or on a couch. Anytime I tried, I was reduced to tears! Hang in there. It truly gets better every day :)

Glad to know I'm not the only one. The recliner is where I am tonight, it is much easier to get out of than my bed.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
