3 years ago I had WLS --the Sleeve

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

Well, today is my 3 year anniversary :D :D . Yes, 3 years ago today I had sleeve surgery with Dr. Aceves. I want to also share why I have been a little quiet on this board and have not been post much this last month. I have been gone for the last month. Bob and I and spent the last month in Europe. I was pretty busy. Bob and I saw 10 different countries while we were gone. I did have a computer with me and tried to stay caught up. We were on a tour to start with for 18 days and we saw 8 different countries. Then we went on a cruise and we saw 2 more countries. This was a test for me too. There were all kinds of food every place we went. So many of the restaurants serve 4 and 5 course meals for lunch and dinner. I knew that I could NEVER eat all that food. So, I took a few bits of each course and left food on my plate that I did NOT eat. I must admit I ate a lot of deserts and had some wonderful candy while I was on vacation. I thought this was a lifelong dream to have a vacation like this and I was going to make the most of it. Believe me I did. I said to myself, I know how to get the weight off that I will gain when I get home. Well, we arrived home yesterday and I bravely got on the scales this morning to see what my damage was. I got very excited when I looked down and saw that I had LOST 3 pounds while I was gone. We did a LOT of walking, so that is what saved me. The reason I am telling you this is that I want you to know that life really can be quite normal after losing 105 pounds. I have kept it off. I eat healthy, and I continue to exercise.

I am 66  years old and I am living proof that you too can become successful. My life has never been better. I am healthy and that is what I am most thankful for. If you are sitting out there reading this and wondering “should I do this—have WLS or should I try another diet on my own?” My answer to you is that you will NEVER have one regret if you go ahead and have WLS. Please go for it, and Dr. Aceves is the very best surgeon that you could ever find to do your surgery. Dr. Aceves gave me the tool to lose the weight and it took me doing my part we are a very successful team together. It takes effort and work on your part after Dr. Aceves gives you your tool.

Thanks, Suzanne, for sharing your update. You are an inspiration to me, as I am in your age range, surgery scheduled for next week. I'm so glad you enjoyed your cruise and that you were able to fully enjoy yourself without any adverse consequences when you got home!

Suzanne,

I am so glad to see you are doing well in keeping your weight off after 3 years. Now that I am 9 months out, I really love my sleeve, but worry about long term results. Thanks for the update and congratulations on your continued success. Your vacation sounds amazing !!!!

What a great testimony to what to look forward to. (Looking forward to being sleeved at the beginning of the year) I have always invisioned myself being more active, and I have tried many times but diue to my weight and lackl of being able to breath, it always seemed impossible.

I wanted to exercise to lose weight but couldn't breath to exercise. It seemed before I got very far, I was discouraged. The sleeve will hellp me to attain that goal. I can not wait!!!!

Congrats on your success, your posts are very inspiring, I thank you.

I am so glad you were able to enjoy Europe. That is another dream I have hope of living out. In the future, I will fit comfortably in the airline seat .

Hi Everyone,

Awhhhhh! thanks for all your kind, and wonderful words. I just want people to see and know that they too can become successful. I spent too many years failing at trying to lose the weight and never could keep it off if I lost it. This was my answer. My healthy has improved 100%, my energy level is extremely high. I love life and so many good and wonderful things have happened to me in my life. It just keeps getting better.

NEVER give up on your dreams OK!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
