My name is Beth and I had my lap-band surgery last week. I just discovered this site today and I am so excited. I love support groups. I am experiencing pain still at my port site and in my back. I have already experieced bad pain in my stoma and I hate the Protein Drinks. I also don't feel very full yet and am hungry all the time. I am told that it does get better when I can eat soft foods. I am on liquids right now. I hope that someone out there that would like to be my buddie. I don't know how this forum works but I am sure that I can figure it out.

Beth

Baylor Mom welcome to the site. You will find very good information on this site. Just do go the complication site too much I find it very scary at times.

For the back pain try walking and a heating pad. For the port site pain try an ice pack. See how this works

Congratulations on your new life. I live in Arlington TX. I will email you so we can keep in touch

Welcome to the board and to BandLand. Hang in there because the soreness does get better and the end results are well worth the cost.

I'm sorry that you're having trouble with your Protein Drink. You might try to use the search button at the top of the page and type in Protein drink. There are tons of different kinds out there and you will find lots of threads that talk about them. It is really important to find one you like since your body needs it and protein will help curb your hunger.

Here are my favorites.

  • Whey Protein Powder by Body Fortress sold at Walmart. I mix it with reduced calorie Tropicana orange juice and ice. It tastes kinda like an Orange Julias.
  • Atkins Advantage Shakes-Creamy Vanilla
  • Isopure at GNC. This one is more like a punch or fruit drink. It comes in several different flavors.

Good luck and we're glad that you are here.

Hi Beth,

I am still learning all of this myself. I had my surgery on 3/23/06 and I just had my 3rd adjustment yesterday. I have lost 42 pounds from March to the beginning of June and then everything stopped however, now that I got another adjustment I have lots of restriction and I think this is gonna work for me. I have enjoyed this forum because it helps to know that some of the things that you are going through, some others are going through the same things.......and I think alot of us have the same goal and that is to be comfortable in our own skin and to be healthier!......that is my goal anyway! If I can be of any help just let me know! Good Luck with your lab band!

Terri

Hi Beth, welcome to bandland. You don't have restriction until you receive fills so it is normal to be hungry or normal to eat a little more than you think. Be patient and just follow the doctors diet and you will do great. Congrats.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
