Waiting for Insurance Approval (Aetna)

Recommended Posts

Hello family, well my paperwork has been submitted to Aetna for approval to be sleeved. I called and Aetna has it as received on 10/18 and noted as "pending authorization". The very helpful service rep actually put me on hold today and called over to the authorization center to see if she could get any further information. They told her that all of my papers were in order, they just have to review all 29 pages. I am so excited and nervous all at the same time. Waiting is the pits (LOL)----we are such a microwave society---we really don't know how to wait for anything----we want everything now - instantly - well, at least in this instance I don't. I just want to get my "approved" so that I can rest easy. I am scheduled to be sleeved Nov 2nd and am scheduled to have my medical clearance process done Oct 26th. In my heart I know I'll be approved, but my mind has to catch up with my heart. After MANY years of fad diets (WW, Jenny Craig, Nutra System, Alli pills, Atkins diet, fasting, liquid diets and I could go on and on), I'm ready for my ultimate change. I'm ready!!! Pray for me that I remain positive and encouraged while I wait. Blessings2u--BJ

I don't remember the number of days, but it seems to have been within a week or so when I went thru it earlier this year. The surgeon's insurance coordinator was prepared for a long back and forth battle with them since they often put up a fight but they surprised us when they called him with the approval so quick. Now, getting them to pay the surgeon's fees is another issue.....

I hope you get as speedy response on their approval,

It took Aetna four days to approve me. As for the anesthesiologist fees, that took six months but they did take care of them. :)

Best of luck to you!

Amanda

I just got approved yesterday. It took them less than 3 days. I hope you have the same positive outcome as I did. I wouldn't call them too much though . You don't want to make them mad. ;) Best wishes!

I have Highmark BCBS and sent everything in for approval on Fri. Doc office told me it could take up to 30 days but usually only takes 2 weeks. Hearing that a lot of people got approved so fast makes me even more anxious i am practically climbing the walls. Want to be done with this by the end of the year so i can start the new year fresh.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
