I think WW allows too many carbs to work for me. All the "free" veggies and fruits just not realistic with my sleeve.

They are about to change it up again , by the way, because the new plan is not working very well. My friend is an instructor and she even lowers her points a lot to lose.

Before my sleeve, WW was the only diet that would work for me...for awhile. I just couldn't keep it up, and I would regain every pound. It's an awful lot of money and time for something that's not applicable to your life as a sleever now. Even though it's less 'carb focused' than it was before, it's still not any kind of plan you're going to need to follow with your sleeve. I'm not sure what the going rate is now, but I know it's at least $12/week and possibly more. So unless you just have an extra $50 that you don't need for new clothes (which is something you most definitely will be needing) I just wouldn't do it right now.

As someone else said, the support at WW is fantastic, and once I get closer to goal I might even find myself there again for the ten thousandth time too and finally make lifetime for once! lol

WW makes money selling there product. They know people lose weight but do not keep it off. They have known this for over 20 years. There people will keep coming back. It's a business. It is not fair to the people that are dieting the old way to see how successful you are. They are going to be resentful and think you cheated. You have to ask yourself why you are going there?

I think telling people about the sleeve is very important, but unless you are invited to talk about it it could be bad manners.

I think it's a great idea. I have been going to WW meetings since before I had my surgery and I just made goal 2 weeks ago. The meeting are very informative and having the support is awesome. Plus you will be helping to motivate your friend. As for the money, your saving so much since you eat less now that the few dollars per week for the meeting won't really be a big deal. I say go for it and you won't regret it.

In some of my old meetings, people would mention that they were thinking about having surgery, and there was an uproar about how you should do it "the healthy way" and how people who have WLS have all kinds of problems and how they just don't have the determination to do it the old fashioned way. We all know the truth about WLS and it's really not up to anyone else to judge us. Personally, I feel I am so committed to weight loss that I am willing to use EVERY tool out there to help me get healthy, and that includes both surgery and WW (and this site) for support. When I join WW I will be a lot closer to my goal, so I don't feel like I will be misleading anyone by not mentioning my sleeve. The truth is I heat healthy and I exercise every day, and since I won't be there from the beginning, they're not going to watch me drop 100lbs, they're going to see me work of 10 or 20. Having been through WW multiple times not to mention every other diet on the planet, I feel like I know A TON about nutrition and exercise and the people in that meeting could benefit from things I have to share just as much as I can benefit by having that weekly boost of encouragement and help with emotional issues. For me it's not about the food plan anymore, it's about keeping my eye on the prize.

My problem with WW was that all they talked about was food, I left hungry and purchasing 20 bucks worth of Snacks they sold,,was easy for me to go home and have myself a little party. I'm an addict. If you're looking for group sessions, you can try Overeaters Anonymous. (WW is a good program,,it was just the meetings weren't really good for me.) Some of the programs we are going through with wls offer group for free too..or you can start your own?..just saying for those who were wanting the group support.

I feel you on the snacks! I wish they didn't sell them. I guess it's a better alternative than a bag of chips but they're not filling at all and a poor food choice in my opinion. I've never tried OA. That's something to think about. Do you weigh in there too?

I know this sounds crazy,, but I loved going to Overeaters Anonymous! The group I attended was structured, the leader made a point to set you straight if you gained, and the entire group was so supportive if you lost or gained. They had monthly goals with great incentives, it was just an amazing group! I lost around 70 pounds in year! The building we held meetings at stopped allowing outside functions, we could not find any alternative, tried to a couple different options over the next month but it just did not work out and our chapter disolved. I have been looking for another local chapter within a 1/2 drive from my town but cannot find one... If any one reading this post has an opportunity to attend a meeting, please go.... it is very, very inexpensive, weekly weigh in's, motivational support, works off the same life lesons as AA.

If you don't get what you want from an OA meeting, you can switch to a different one. I know there were several being held in Lexington Ky where I went. You can search them online and find the cities/towns where they are located. Dramagirl, some will have weigh ins, some are more structured than others. I've been thinking of going back but hate to drive back and forth so much,,wish they had one in my hometown.

Sleeve of Steel,

Did you tell them you had WLS? I was a member of WW for many years. I'm sure it's the only reason I wasn't heavier. I really like it and would love to have a lifetime membership. I am 23 lbs. from goal so I could join now and quickly get to lifetime.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
