Home Sweet Home!

Recommended Posts

Well, add me to the sleeved family list!! I was sleeved Tuesday and was able to come home yesterday afternoon!! I'm really pleased to report that the pain has been very tolerable and I had none of the gas pains I've read about. I have to admit that Tuesday I really fought the urge to run out of the hospital kicking and screaming..I had such a case of 2nd thoughts and doubts but I'm so glad I went through with it. The first day and maybe even a little the second day I fought off thoughts questioning what I've done to myself but I know that in the long run, this is the best thing I could do for me and for my family. So today it's all about walking and sipping!

Oh, and for those of you who have yet to go....I made a few casseroles and freezer meals for when I came home and knew I wouldn't want to cook. Last night my husband popped on in and they had a hot, healthy meal and I was able to maintain my couch position. Just a thought for any of you who may be planning your recovery :-)

Lots of love,

Kristin

Hi Kristen, it's good to hear you are doing well. Those of us still to be sleeved (such as this coming Tuesday - gulp!) appreciate your thoughtfulness in not dwelling on the negative. :) Your idea of preparing some food ahead of time for your family makes you a better woman than I am. My husband will be fending for himself for a few days after I get home - ha!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
