DidZ 1 Posted October 20, 2011 Hi I am 4 weeks post op, I have lost 42lb, everything has gone well apart from the fact that I have had a UTI ever since I was in hospital, so I have been on antibiotics for 3/4 weeks now. Pre-op I was prone to UTI's and would drink a large glass of Water to flush it through. The problem now is it takes me 2/3 hours to drink that same amount of Fluid, and then have to stop to eat, and don't want to drink again for an hour after food.< /span> I am going to see a Urologist in a few weeks time, but really need to try and drink more water... Any suggestions? when will I be able to drink more? will I ever be able to eat and drink at the same time?
MegInNOLA 531 Posted October 20, 2011 Yes, you'll be able to drink more--don't know about eating and drinking. I still can't do that and I'm 6 months out. I would suggest that you just keep a cup in your hand all the time in order to keep sipping. Hang in there--it gets better!!
AutumnLily 77 Posted October 20, 2011 How about cranberry juice the tannins in it coats the inside of your bladder making it hard for the bacteria to hold onto and they get flushed out. Since you are prone to the UTI I would think a cranberry juice a day will keep the bacteria away

Thank you for your reply, It's good to know that I will be able to drink more eventually! at the moment I just want to drink all the time rather than eat, but I'm sure that will change when I get this sorted out. I am so pleased with my weight loss, it has certainly been worth it! 6 months! wow how much have you lost?
Thomas CPA 496 Posted October 20, 2011 Starting month 3 and I sometimes have a little Water or coffee with dinner to wash down food but just a little. Otherwise I just can't drink a lot of water, can't stand it unless it is iced cold, changed to small water bottles but still hard to get in more than 4 to 5 cups. Oregondaisy 2,021 Posted October 20, 2011 I am prone to UTIs too so I understand what you're going through. You need to find a temperature that seems to work. I can't drink it really cold. I prefer room temp. Bottled Water works better. There are a lot of people who complain they can't drink Water . People say it's the PH balance that does not agree with our tiny tummies. You need to experiment with the temp and whether different brands of bottled water work better for you. I also do better and am able to drink more with a straw. I can't drink cranberry juice either. It's too much acid for my bladder and it makes me feel like I have a UTI when I don't have one.

That explains, why I find it easier to drink tea! pre-op, I was used to drinking lots of bottled water, which I leave in the fridge. Today I will try room temp water and let you know how it goes! Many thanks...
Oregondaisy 2,021 Posted October 21, 2011 The no drinking while eating is not going to change though. It's too hard to fit liquids in there with the tiny stomach at the same time as solids. They say it will stretch your stomach but I find I just don't have room. I will usually take one sip after I am all done eating,
Neese 75 Posted October 21, 2011 First off, I know your pain with UTI; Secondly thank you for bringing this up, I did not even take this into consideration until now ! Good luck with getting the Water issue figured out! Lastly, remember Phenazopyridine the pills that turn your pee gatorage orange. They always help ease the pain! Good luck!
