Sharp pains at 17 days out?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, today I am 17 days out from being sleeved and for the most part I feel as if everything has been "typical." I am feeling some mood swings regretting my surgery when I am hungry or when I have taken one to many bites, still on the pureed stage and honestly cant imagine eating anything that isnt pureed, I feel as if it would hurt my new tummy... My concern/question is about my largest incision (the one where the stomach is removed) as I said I am 17 days out from my surgery and I still feel a lot of pulling and quit often a sharp pinching like stitches are still pulling tight, did anyone experience anything similar to this or am I the only one? I have no trouble with any of the other incisions at all just the largest one, scares me a little like either stitches are still to tight or a leak... any words of advice or similar stories would be greatly appreciated as my imagination gets carried away at times. Thanks in advance!

I am 8 days post op and have had pain in the same area. Called dr yesterday and was told it's normal and to try putting a heating pad on it. Today, something new happened. The pain, which is right under my left breast has now become MUCH more sharp, like a stabbing pain. Even hurts when I take a deep breath. Suddenly, I'm a bit scared / freaked out. Any thoughts appreciated!

I'm glad it's not just me. I am 15 days out from surgery and I still have a lot of pain at that same incision. Last week it was so bad I called the doctor but he said it was normal as that incision is the largest and it was stitched from the inside as opposed to the other incisions. It also hurts so much because of where it is. Mine is right at the crease of my belly (slightly higher and to the right of my belly button). So every time I sit or stand it hurts.I had all good intentions of going back to the gym to just start some cardio this week, but it hurts just to walk. I have been wearing a waist cyncher and that actually helps alot. It's not a tight one, but it holds that area tight and it feels better when I walk.

Anyway, I'm not glad anyone else is in pain, but I'm glad to hear it is normal.

My pain was pretty bad in the same spot, I was told it is very common. Mine lasted at least 2 months.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
