Thanks for all your input about swimming. My lap band is schedualed for July 16 right in the middle of swimming season. Hopefully one month will be all it will take to get back in the pool. I've been so encouraged by this web page. I'm looking forward to getting it done . I have been over weight all my life except at birth. Who would of thought a 4lb.15oz baby would have so much trouble with weight. I have battled weight for 50+ years and now have the means and support to really do something about it.I tried 3 years ago to get the insurance to ok lap band. Was turned down after about six months of jumping through hoops for them. Now with a different carrier but same insurance company I was approved in less than two months!!!

Some questions for all of you swimmers.... What kind of swimming do you do? What's best for weight loss? Do you do other workouts too?

I have been taking Water aerobics three times a week but haven't seen much change. I'm not banded yet, but I'm wondering if swimming will be good enough when I do or if I need to look into a gym or something.

I'm glad you guys bumped this thread..

I've been wondering about information on swimming. I'm almost 4 weeks post op, and my parents opened their pool up for the season this past Monday.. we're going over for mother's day and I was really wanting to swim.. now I think I will! ;)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
