7 weeks out....what was your loss at this stage?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

Tomorrow I will be 7weeks post op and have lost about 20 lbs since surgery day! a year ago I was on 328 lbs and that pushed me into considering WLS. Now as of today I am 274. I'm excited but I'm also curious as to what everyone elseat 7weeks is at? I had hit my 1st stall in the last week of September and lasted 2weeks but I feel I could be doing better in losing the weight. I excercise for an hour 4 times a week and am sticking to eating fish chicken and veggies. Today I actually ate just the top part of a cupcake with no icing because its my birthday. Maybe its just me and I'm expecting too much too soon. I also read about losing hair at 3 months but looks like I started already and it actually makes me a little depressed.

Hello! I am also 7 weeks today! It sounds like you are doing awesome. The one thing that my surgeon told me was each journey is our own. It's hard not to worry. I'm not allowed to eat whole cuts of meat yet. I have a hard time getting veggies too since I eat my Protein first. I'm down 37lbs and feel pretty great. How are you doing with protein? I struggle a lot with it.

Hi Jill!

Thanks for your reply and congrats on your 7th week also! My surgeon also told me about the same thing! Everyone is different and just try your best and use your tool the best you can. I am still curious though and still wonder, you know? Lol Protein wise, I can not do Protein shakes. I absolutely get sick when I attempt to take one. So my Protein is from my food & the protein coffee's I drink. I try to stick to eggs, turkey, fish, chicken and diary mostly. Veggies go down fine if they are fully cooked and soft! Its hard and sometimes I feel I am not getting enough but I'm trying! Have you encountered hair loss yet?

I think we are going through the exact same thing! I can't tolerate any shakes. I have tried so many. Seems like I like them for a day or two and then it's back to nausea. I can't wait until I can do bars. Good luck!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
