Questions...sleeved on 10/13/11

Recommended Posts

OK...I was sleeved in KY on 10/13/11 and also had a hiatel hernia repair and gallbladder removal. I am sore but it isnt really in my middle abdomen it is mostly upper abdomen and shoulders, some in my legs. I put on 14 lbs in the hosptial which I am assuming is Water weight from the 12 IV bags they ran through me in 2 days (I counted) and today I am down 2.5 lbs of that. What is worrying me is that I am having major trouble getting in my Protein, all of them make me nauseous. And that I counted today and I got in 60 oz if Fluid (low cal gatorade, water, tea-decaf) but only 50 calories. I am not hungry usually. I think that I am feeling full when I start feeling like I have heartburn. I just cant tell because I never feel hungry or full. Is any of this making sense? Suggestions?

I am focusing on liquids now...not Protein. Get in your fluids and then focus on protein. I also find that drinking a little bit of naturally sweetened(ie no added sugar) apple juice helps me. I froze a little and made a slushie.

I havent tried anything like that but I will. I am doing much better with the fluids but the protein is killing me as well as it doesnt seem healthy to only take in 50 calories a day. I will try the slushie idea...I love applejuice.

The pain is likely just gas built up inside. You need to pass some gas to get rid of pain.

Not uncommon to put on a couple of pounds with the IVs but you will lose that fast enough and then some.

As for Protein, just drink a lot of chicken or beef broth and Protein shakes. It is easier to drink the shakes, at least for me, when they are cold. So mix it and put some in fridge to chill. Add some ice into blender.

To boost Protein, use fat free milk instead of Water. After first week or so put in some plain yogurt and fat free cottage cheese if doctor okays.

I think that part of the problem is that I am only allowed Clear Liquids now. Which puts out most of the decent tasting protein drinks/shakes. I have several that I like that I can start on Wed but not yet. I am drinking broth as much as I can. About 2 oz at a time. The Protein Shots that I have found are really bad. They make me nauseas with just the smell of them. I guess I am just worried about staying healthy until Wed. at that point my options broaden. How did you know you were full or hungry for that matter?

The Protein shots have whey in them like the powders do but they also contain collagen. I think this is how they pack in huge amounts of Protein in a few ounces. I thought I could slide in my protein this way but my oh my they suck. Nasty indeed! I am 3 weeks removed from surgery (hit my "Stall Wall") and decided that I am just gonna make a pate out of two chicken breasts daily and eat that. Those two alone have nearly 60g of protein.

For the gas get those Gas-X strips from Wal-Mart. They help. Get a heating pad for the shoulder too. They were suggested from someone here on this site and they helped. I am told the gain from the fluids is very normal. I had none. My surgery was on a Friday and by the following Monday I was walking about a mile per day. The first couple of weeks out I was mostly concentrating on Water intake. I got in some protein from the skim milk and the broths. Not nearly 60g but some.

I was sleeved 2 days before you. I only had to do the Clear Liquids in the hospital but came home on full liquids. As for the Protein, I'm still not getting in the proper amount of Protein yet but my doctor said that my priority right now is hydration and nutrition will be later. I'm seeing the doctor again on Wednesday so by then I think he will tell me to make sure I get in the protein.

On the full liquids I am also allowed plain or vanilla yogurt and pudding. So I have been trying to have a chobani yogurt a day which gives me around 20g of protein.

Good luck to you!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
