Recommended Posts

So, I am slightly less than 2 weeks from my surgery (YAYYY!!) I started the pre-op diet yesterday. I think my stomach is eating itself LOL. Question is: How am I going to make it 12 more days if I'm this hungry now? Any advice??

I have been on preop diet for 1 week so far. I am supposed to have two Meal Replacement shakes per day and one small meal of gril,ed meat and all the greeneafy veggies i want. I am drinking total lean shakes from GNC. I'm not having any hunger issues. What are eating?

I have the meal replacement shakes. I can also have sugar-free popsicles, sugar-free Jello, and fat-free broth. Unfortunately, no solid food. :(

What are you drinking for your meal replacement shakes & are you taking your Vitamins? I use Celebrate Vitamins (designed for gastric surgery patients) & drinking Total Lean ready to drink shakes from GNC store. I don't usually get hungry but, if I do, they said I could have another shake (i usually drink half of one if hungry). I do 2 shakes per day & one meal (grilled or baked meat & all the green leafy vegetables I want.

Drinking Slim Fast (yuck..lol) and no vitamins, yet. I do 4 shakes per day, some sugar-free Jello and popsicles, chicken broth for evening "meal", and all the calorie free drinks I want. LOTS of Water, also.

Slim fast doesn't have enough Protein & has way too many carbs. More protein & less carbs will keep u from getting hungry & will loose more fat. Also need to take Vitamins. You need to get a list from your surgeon of what vitamins he wants u to be on.

I am on day 12 and just now feeling less starved than the first week and a half.. Its all mental. I did great on my supervised diet until I was told to start my 2 week preop.. ALL down hill.. I woke up starving.. tired.. and nothing was different :) Just hang in there.. I agree with vf59.. high Protein, less carbs.. carbs make you hungry.. protein gives you a sense of fullness.. and keep checking in on this forum.. it has been a HUGE motivational factor for me to read up on stories and responses.. hang in there!!!

I just went through this and the answer is that it actually gets easier with time. The first few days I could have eaten the walls. But after that I lost my hunger to the point that it was easier to resist. So my advice is to just hang in there a little longer and you will make it.

Btw my prep diet was 4 weeks so just say to yourself thank god its only 2 weeks!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
