Soft food stage- out to eat?

Recommended Posts

I ate mashed potatoes at kfc (only a few spoon fulls). When my family ate out I took a yogurt with me or I stopped and bought a pre made Protein Shake. It worked for me because we have 3 small kids and I usually dont sit and enjoy a leisurely meal anyway. Good luck to you. If you dont think you can keep from eating things you shouldnt then I say stay home. I just tried to remember that it is only a short time and food is only for nutrients not enjoyment.

Just stick to Soup or chili, and don't expect to get more than half the serving down.

We went to outback and I ordered the french onion Soup (just be careful to drink the broth separate from the bread/cheese) and I asked them to give me more broth than onions. I also had a couple small bites of my sister's sweet potato.

If you go to an Italian restaurant, you could order some type of cheese-filled Pasta... and just eat the cheese filling. It is super yummy and full of Protein.

Going out during the soft foods stage is difficult but luckily it doesn't last long!

Any suggestions on some good places to go while still in the soft food stage?

That depends on what is included in your "soft food" stage - there are lots of variations. Mine included most seafood, rice & Beans, veggieburgers, eggs, etc.

Anywhere that serves scrambled eggs! Also, Panera has amazing Soups. I get soups out all the time. I love lobster bisque or french onion, creamy potato, yummy! For fast food, refried Beans, mashed potatoes, baked potatoes from Wendy's.....hope that helps some.

I went to O'Charleys and had a cup of their chicken Tortilla Soup. I took off the tortilla pieces and drank almost half the yummy juice of the soup. Then I took the rest home and put it in the food processor since there were chunk of chicken. I had two more meals off of it. Not bad for $3 biggrin.gif

Chinese resturant, egg drop Soup. Crabmeat augratin/crab cakes at seafood resturant. Sweet potatoes and soup at steak resturant. Refried black Beans with queso Mexican resturant. You can still find stuff just have to be a bit more creative. I notice I order most of my stuff now on the "sides" side of the menu. My four year old and I split a plate now and we both get more than enough to eat.

I enjoy the time with the family and not having to cook EVEN more than the just eating alot of food like I used to.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
