Hi my name is Yvette. I wanted to introduce myself to everyone on here in hopes of making new friends and sharing our experiences. In a few days I should be finalizing my surgery date to be done in Mexico. I would love to hear success stories, concerns any advice would be lovely. I am looking forward to starting a new life soon!!

Hi Yvette,

Don't know about the Mexico surgeries but some advice in general,

Learn to eat small meals and eat slowly. For the first couple of weeks you are on a liquid diet then mushy diet. I went to solid foods in week 2 and my doctor wasn't concerned as long as I could handle it. I just figured if I chewed 50 times it was equivalent to putting it into a blender.

I was, and many others, able to drive day after being released. Do take a stool softener as you reintroduce solids it may get rough. Try and drink the 8 cups of Water a day and take your Vitamins.< /p>

Anyway, I am Tom and live in Los Angeles and hope you have a successful procedure. I started June 2010 at 305 and through change of eating habits and exercise I dropped to 236 when I had surgery on August 4. I am now in my ninth week and at 195. Only 15 more to my goal of 180.

I feel great, got back to gym in week 3 took about 2 weeks to get normal 1 hour workout in and about 4 weeks to start getting my strength back that I had prior to surgery.

Looking forward to hearing about your journey.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
