Poll: Would you have the VSG again?? Yes No and why

Recommended Posts

Yes I would have it again and I would encourage others to do so too. I feel healthier than I have in years. I was on a plane yesterday and didn't feel that I was crowding those around me. This morning a waitress asked my husband if he wanted to change places with me because I had more room in a booth and he had the tighter side. The list goes on, but the most important reason is because I feel healthier. I enjoy life more when I feel well.

Poll: Would you have the VSG again for those who are 4 months and later post op? Yes, No and Why. Thanks

I'm only 6 1/2 weeks post op but I can definitely say that I would do this again. In fact, I wish I could have had the surgery years ago. I have my life back "finally" and I am looking forward to participating in all the fun instead of sitting by and watching. I love my sleeve!!!!!

:D

YES. 10+ months and ~165 pounds down, while I am not exactly where I WANT to be I am certainly far better than I would be without the sleeve.

It has saved my life.

Only 2 1/2 months out but I wish I had done this years earlier. I often wonder why PCP's do not recommend this to their patients.

I am just shy of 6 months and I would absolutely do this again. I had some internal bleeding in the beginning and I was in the hospital for 5 days after surgery, but I would still do it again! I went from 20 pills a day, 17 of them prescriptions 3 over the counter to just 3 a day, 2 prescriptions 1 over the counter and that is my multi-vitamin!

1) My diabeties is in complete remission.

2) My blood pressure is controled with one pill a day instead of 4

3) My triglycerides when from the 1000's with no meds to 400's

4) My cholesterol is just shy of normal now

5) My stamina and sex drive has increased 10 fold if not more...ok more LOL

6) I look damn cute now ;)

The weight loss is great I won't deny that, but that is not the reason I did this, 1-5 is why I did this. I was killing myself and I needed help getting the weight off so I could get off of the pills so I could know what "normal" felt like again. So often I didn't know if I was ill or if it was a side effect of a pill. The pre-op diet helped me bet the carb demon, and the different stages of the diet in the beginning helped me teach myself how to eat again. I could eat healthy in the past on diets but this much ((())) of healthy food is, well healthy, this much (((((((((((()))))))))))) of healthy food is no longer healthy.

So to reiterate, yes I would do it again and again and again. It has saved my life, litterally.

I'm 4 days away from being out 6 months (surgery April 18). YES I'd do it again in a New York minute.

WHY?

1. Long-term health--no more "trending up" blood pressure and blood sugar.

2. Check the ticker--down 90 pounds. NINETY freaking pounds that I will never see again--and more to drop!!!

3. Wearing cute clothes! I'm wearing leggings today--I feel like shouting that--because I have NEVER worn leggings before. EVER.

4. Travel for work is no longer embarrassing or a potential source of stress. It's pleasant--I fit in the plane and rental cars easily.

5. Not being treated like the invisible fat woman--people actually make eye contact and smile now!

Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes YES!!!! As others have said, I am happier, healthier, and would have NEVER done this without help.

I have been massively Pi@@ed off all week because I am stalling - AGAIN, and I am generally a slower loser, but today I had to have a new ID photo for work, and when I saw it I was SHOCKED!

The picture isnt how I see me, the woman in the picture looks both healthy, and very happy, and for the only time in my entire life I looked at it, and thought "thin".

I am just 1lb away from my ideal weight range, and I weigh less than I did at 11 years old, when i put away my laundry I am constantly amazed at the size of my new clothes (I swear my jeans are really a tardis - they have to be bigger on the inside than they look outside!!), and when I go shopping I no longer have to dive to the back of the rack to find my size, it is normally second, or third in!

I could go on, and on, even on a bad day I can find a thousand good things about my sleeve! :D

I think I have been sooo lucky getting to where I am today. The sleeve has been awesome, I have lost 77 pounds so far (including my pre surgery weight loss) and have started a whole new way of life without losing any of the old way that I loved and that mattered at all to me. I feel that I have lost sort of slowly, but when I look back over the last 10 months, really it seems like a whirl wind. I still have 15 pounds to lose, and I am on some kind of plateau from hell, lasting almost 6 weeks so far, but really, I am sooo happy about it, and would not change it for not getting surgery, or getting any other kind surgery! I eat what I want and feel fantastic! Whats not to like?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
