The dreaded stahl!

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I have been at the "three week stahl" since week 2 and that was 2 1/2 weeks ago, how long does this last!?!! This is ridiculous, I just had major surgery, suffered, eat hardly anything and haven't lost a thing in almost 3 weeks! I guess I am just afraid that I will be the one person this doesn't work for. I mean I know everyone goes through the stahl's, but this is going to work for me right? right?

Don't worry....I hit stalls all the time....I am on one now have been for 2-3 weeks........boo right? I have noticed that when I don't eat ENOUGH I stall. It is weird to think I need to eat MORE. What usually breaks the stalls is taking in more Protein. Changing something up.....like when I switched PPI and then got off PPI both of those time broke the stall. And my doc was the one that said increase the Protein a little and see what happens and that broke a stall too.

Good luck and know you are not alone! I guess it is just our bodies way of saying whoa....hold on there....slow down! LOLOL

Suez,

I was sleeved on 8/31, and I have not lost a pound since 9/23. That puts me at being stalled for 3 weeks as of tomorrow, so I definately understand your frustration. I don't know what to do either, but I was going to ask my surgeon next Friday during my appointment. I have increased my Protein on my own (added another 2 shakes during the day, two days ago) so hopefully I will see the scale move soon. I feel like such a failure sometimes as well, so you are not alone there, either. I have increased my exercise and changed up my routine, so hopefully all of these will help. I will also reduce my PPI to one a day and see if that helps. Hopefully they will help you as well and we will both see scale movement soon.

I know I stalled in the first weeks. The weight didn't seem to be coming off very fast at all. I was shocked how slow it was because I had made such a drastic change. Once I started eating real food and didn't need the shakes the weight started dropping off quickly. It is easier said than done, but try not to worry about it. It will come off. I am not sure what makes a body hold on to weight, but once it let go I have been losing and losing! Soon, you will see it on the scale. You will be amazed.

I too am stalled. I thought it broke on Monday when I dipped down to 247 and then back up the next day back to 253. Ugh!! I hate my body. I've added Protein so we'll see.

Good luck!!

Change up routine. I put myself on a stall for two weeks to stop the fatigue of losing to fast. Then I started increasing calories and carbohydrates and gym work and lost 2 1/2 pounds in last three days.

One of the problems is the body goes into starvation mode and your metabolism starts to stabilize. You need to shock it to start burning machine again.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
