Hi, I am new to this forum. Getting sleeved Jan 30th unless we can get everything in sooner then maybe earlier. Surgeon is Dr. John Yadegar and am just curious to hear from those that have been to him and what their experiences were like. My primary care physican freaked out a bit as she doesnt know anything about him and would prefer me to get a band. From what I have researched I dont think the band is for me. So any guidance I can get would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Jayne

Hi.. sorry I am know I am not much help as I am brand new myself. To this site and to weight loss surgery. Just found out my insurance covers wl surgery but need to find out what they require of me. How long did it take you to get all your requirements met? I guess I am trying to figure out the amount of time it can take from your first initial decision to have surgery to the actual surgery date being given. I am excited and nervous at the same time.

Hi, from what I have read on various forums it seems everyone has had a different experience, I go the aurthorization from my *** in about two weeks once I had the consultation with Dr Yadegar. I am in the process of bloodwork, psych eval, nutritionist appointments etc. We are hoping to get an earlier date and once I have all the above I will be on a waitlist for an earlier date. So far it seems to have been relatively easy, the longest part was waiting to see the doctor who was really booked up, so it was six long weeks.

Good luck, and keep checking these forums they have been really helpful :)

Thank you! I have heard from some that it takes 6 months or more and I am really hoping it won't take that long for me. I have to call insurance tomorrow morning to find out what they require so I can get started on this as soon as possible. I wish you the best of luck! Hopefully you can get yours sooner than later.

Welcome to VST forum. Okay - lots of people on this site have used your surgeon in Lancaster. Several of them even speak at the Options group which is what you are talking about for the 6 months....if you have Kaiser. Understand all insurances are different.

I am going to suggest you contact "was a humpty dumpty" sleeved just a few months ago by Dr. Yadegar. I am sure she can bounce you over to several others who can give you feedback

Exicting for you both to be starting this journey!

It can really vary in terms of how long it takes. I had my surgery less than six weeks after attending my first info meeting, which is before I had really made a decision to have the surgery. My insurance didn't require preapproval as long as I met the guidelines, but I did have to do some pre-surgery stuff like meet with a nutritionist and a psychologist.

Other insurances require documented weight loss (with a doctor) for six months to a year before approving surgery.

The good news is that it happens and time seems to fly as the weight comes off after surgery. I was sleeved 9 weeks ago yesterday, and I've lost about 44 pounds.

Linda

Hi Jayne :smile1:

I'm new to the forum and just wanted to say hello, it’s great to meet you.

I'm getting sleeved on Jan 16th by Dr. John Yadegar: if there is a cancellation, sooner.

Teresa...

SAGirl, I am two months out. My process was as follows.

Feb 2011 - visited Strax Rejuvenation in Ft Lauderhill, FL, but I felt like a person in line at the deli counter. They shuffled me through SO fast that I was scared of them.

Mar 2011 - started researching Lap Band online and decided to go for it

Mar 15, 2011 - talked to an ER nurse about weight loss surgery and got recommendation for Dr Domkowski

April 2011 - went to Dr D's seminar in Sebastian, FL

May 30, 2011 - hospitalized for pneumonia, which made me miss my initial consultation on June 4, 2011

June 24, 2011 - hospitalized for blood clots and pulmonary embolism. Told that my life expectancy was less than one year if I don't get weight off in a hurry.

July 5, 2011 - consultation with Dr D (decided on VSG instead of lap band)

July 8, 2011 - consult with neurologist re: safety of VSG surgery

July-August, 2011 - myriad doctor appts for co-morbidities

August 27, 2011 - installation of IVC filter

Aug 30, 2011 - VSG surgery! YES! (self-pay for surgery, so no insurance approval)

Sept 1, 2011 - home from hospital

Sept 10, 2011 - removal of IVC filter

November 2, 2011 - Net weight loss: 54 pounds. I am able to walk easier, breathe better, and feel like a whole new person already!!! Oh, and I now have a "normal" life expectancy. :)

I'd do the whole process again.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
