Hungry every 2 hours?

Recommended Posts

I'm sure this has been asked many times but I have to know if this is normal or expected. I am exactly 2 weeks out today from being sleeved (YAY!); I feel hungry early in the morning and my stomach is growling a lot, so I have Breakfast. I am full after just a few bites of food and can't eat anymore. Then about 2 hours later, I'm feeling very hungry again. Is this how it's supposed to be? I guess I just thought I would be full for a little longer than that. Any comments or questions are welcome.

You should consider taking a PPI if you are not doing so now. Your stomach is not used to being the size it is and is still making the same amount of acid. That really helps with the hunger pangs which can be confused with acid. Good Luck.

Thanks, I will try that. Any suggestions on how to take it? I sprinkled it in some yogurt once and there were little balls everywhere in my mouth (haha). Can I ever take a whole pill or capsule again?

Total rookie here!!!

Normally you should be able to take a full pill now, most of us were on a regiment of daily Vitamins. One pill is not going to fill stomach. From what I have seen on this board it appears normal to have days when you are constantly eating and days when food isn't even missed but you got to moderate those periods.

If you have problem swallowing a whole pill, put a little olive oil on it so it slides down easier or anything you like taste of like ketchup

You can also ask your dr for a script for a dissolvable antacid -- that's what I did -- it's one that you have to put on your tounge and it dissolves, tastes okay -- not exactly as good a dessert (lol) but better than worrying about taking capsules ... my doctor doesn't want us to take any capsules for 8 weeks.

BTW, I'm 3 weeks out and also, hungry every 2 hours or so ... I'm just starting my "mushy" stage, and cottage cheese seems to satisfy my hunger more than mushy lentil Soup (which I've been having and enjoying, I love lentils, and good source of protein), but greek yogurt, cottage cheese and apple sauce (which unfortunately is not high in Protein though) all seem to go down nicely & satisfy me for at least 2 - 2.5 hours ... I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels hungry -- from what I've been reading on the posts lots of people who are newbies are hungry too -- and my nutritionist said that's a good sign - in that I'm healing nicely and that I probably did not have a lot of swelling after the surgery (although my tummy was so black & blue!) ...

keep up the good work ...

RG

Some people have hard time talking pills having it stick in your throat. If that is your problem just rub a little olive oil on it. Otherwise you should be able to take a full pill. Think as someone said also, it may be acid not hunger pangs.

I feel hungry all the time and nibble here and there and still losing weight. Don't sweat it, it will pass.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
